Indulge In Top-Notch Mixology At DTLA’s Birds & Bees!

A fun, retro 1950’s theme with drinks named after celebrities from that era.

Any jetsetter who loves a creative and perfectly concocted cocktail will adore Birds & Bees.

Birds & Bees is a one-of-a-kind cocktail bar in Downtown L.A. that’s truly underground. It’s tucked away in a basement behind a parking lot on 3rd Street and Broadway (part of the fun is looking for the entrance so we won’t disclose any more information!).

The bar has a fun, retro 1950’s theme with décor and menu items that pop with color. Drinks are named after famous celebrities from the era as well as local neighborhoods in Los Angeles. The cocktails are crafted according to what those celebs would’ve drank back in the day and the flavors that each L.A. neighborhood evokes.

With no shortage of trendy, high-class cocktail bars in DTLA, Birds & Bees manages to stand out as one of the most exciting destinations for elevated mixology. Every cocktail is unlike anything you’ve had before and uses distinct liquors, syrups and ingredients, many of which are made in-house. Most popular concoctions include Elysian Paradise, made with date-infused mezcal, tamarind, guajillo chili and pineapple. There’s also the Little Tokyo Smoke Break, a Nikka Coffey Grain Whiskey based drink that’s served in a vile with real Cherrywood smoke and a side of dark chocolate bits and dried cherries. The celebrity-inspired drinks get even more creative and colorful. The Gregory Peck is a deliciously refreshing libation featuring Barbados rum, pineapple rum, mezcal, chartreuse and white peppercorn tincture. Perhaps the most peculiar drink on the current menu is the Elvis Presley made with peanut-infused bourbon, allspice, elderflower, licor 43 and a side of delicious homemade banana bread.

The menu also includes stellar punchbowls which are great for sharing between anywhere from two to eight people. The 77 Sunset Strip was our favorite pick, which was a delectable and pretty bowl filled with rye whiskey, London dry gin, honey, ginger, jasmine green tea, Campari, sparkling wine, lemons and oranges. If coming in with a group, one definitely can’t miss the chance to go in on a punchbowl and get buzzed together!

Watch bar manager and master mixologist, Jake Larowe, mix up the bar’s bestsellers. And be sure to drop by Birds & Bees in DTLA for exceptional mixology and a fabulous retro time!
