Why SO/ Sotogrande Is One of the Best Luxury Hotels in Spain

The SO/ brand brings art, fashion, and avant-garde design to every luxury property in its portfolio. In the case of SO/ Sotogrande, the property is a highly polished yet tranquil resort that seamlessly melds nature and Andalusian heritage into the design. A stunning ceramic lattice of arches, reminiscent of traditional Andalusian courtyards, adorns the facade of the entrance.

Contemporary Luxury Meets Andalusian Charm
Inside the hotel, there are sculptural light installations that model the birds that migrate through the area and hyperrealist murals of native flora painted on the walls. The sleek lines of each building run parallel to the horizon, accentuating the calming presence of the Mediterranean Sea. Among the outstanding art and surrounding nature, there is always the unmistakable sense that one is in Southern Spain.

The rooms have design elements that are reminiscent of vintage 70s funk-like wavy lines, low wooden cabinetry, and playful color blocking on the rugs and headboards. The overall ambiance is relaxed and minimalist, with modern amenities like Nespresso machine, Harman Kardon speaker, Smeg kettle, and Chromecast at one’s fingertips. The bathrooms are highly generous with separate sinks, a large soaking tub, a rain shower, and high-end bath amenities for every room category. All the rooms come with a patio or balcony as well, so that guests can enjoy nature at their leisure.

A Paradise for Golf Enthusiasts

The all-inclusive package has a three-night minimum and is well worth it for the many exclusive amenities that guests can access. The sweetest perk is access to the ultra-exclusive La Reserva Sotogrande country club. All-inclusive guests will be able to enjoy sunbeds at La Reserva’s swanky beach club as well as the sports facilities, including padel courts, polo, tennis, and watersports. Other all-inclusive perks include access to surrounding golf courses, fitness classes, children’s activities, and unlimited food and beverage spending at hotel restaurants.

Award-Winning Wellness and Spa Facilities
Wellness is a central pillar of SO/, as the brand encourages rejuvenation as part of a thoroughly restful stay. The Sotogrande spa is a world-class spa facility, featuring a full hydrotherapy Thalasso circuit, salt flotation tank, cryotherapy chamber, and cutting-edge fitness center. The treatment and rest areas blend into the verdant outdoors so that guests can relax serenely among the natural surroundings.

The spa products are provided by local brand Maison Soto and are made with restorative plants that are native to Andalusia, such as jara (rockrose) and siempreviva (everlasting flower.) The spa also offers multiple treatments using salt from the famous salt flats of the Bay of Cádiz, which yields excellent results in exfoliation, purification, and stimulating circulation.

Exceptional Dining Experiences

The resort offers a plethora of restaurants and the opportunity to enjoy various styles of Spanish gastronomy. Cortijo Santa Maria 1962 is the property’s fine dining restaurant that serves elevated Andaluz cuisine. The name pays homage to the traditional cortijo, or farmhouse, that originally occupied the property. The restaurant proudly serves the best Spanish ingredients, along with a wide selection of cheeses and cured meats specifically from Andalusia.

IXO Tapas & Bar is a more casual option for those nights when one just feels like having a drink and snacking at the bar. The bar offers an excellent menu of signature cocktails, like the Sherry Mary with sherry from Jerez and the Costa del Sol spritz made with gin, almond syrup, and grapefruit soda. There’s a list of tapas to go with the drinks, including classic bites like tortilla de patata and croquetas, but with a fun twist.

Marxa Chiringuito is the hotel’s version of a breezy beach restaurant, where the balmy evening air flows through the vibrant and tropical open-air space. The parrilla, aka the expansive grill, takes center stage at Marxa, so ordering any of the grilled meat, seafood, or vegetables is a must. The meaty sea bass was softer and juicier than most, and the grilled purple carrots with payoyo cheese and honey were some of the tastiest.

Things to Do Near SO/ Sotogrande

There are many destinations to explore outside of the resort. Sotogrande itself offers lots to see and do, from world-renowned golf courses to glamorous beach clubs and a glitzy marina where seafaring residents park their yachts. Cádiz and Málaga are both an hour and a half’s drive away in either direction. Gibraltar is half an hour away by car. For those who wish to venture even further out, Tarifa at the very southern tip of Spain can be reached within an hour. From there, one can do a day trip to Morocco, as there are ferries between Tarifa and Tangier almost hourly each day.

Is SO/Sotogrande Worth It?
It offers guests a rare chance to experience one of the most exclusive and high-end enclaves in the Mediterranean. The design is sleek, the nature is beautiful, and the Southern Spanish sun shines a glow on the good life. Go for a sophisticated and glitzy Spanish holiday at SO/ Sotogrande all year round.
