Your Agra Cheat Sheet: THE ABSOLUTE BEST Things To Do

Agra has more to it than the Taj Mahal, even though the Taj is as grand and majestic as you might imagine. Make sure to take advantage of all Agra has to offer!

Agra, India– well recognized for the location for the Taj Mahal, which is an internationally recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site. However, this city has a lot to offer outside of this iconic piece of Mughal architecture. Here is a list of places to see, eat, drink, shop at, and stay!

SEE

Taj Mahala grand love story

Dharmapuri, Forest Colony, Tajganj, Agra, Uttar Pradesh 282001, India

Even though Agra has more to offer than the Taj Mahal, it naturally still had to be included on the list of things to see. The famous ivory-white marble Islamic mausoleum is located at the South Bank of the Yamuna River. The building was commissioned in 1632 by Mughal Emperor, Shah Jaha, who wanted to build it as a tomb for one of his wives. The Taj Mahal now also acts as the tomb for Shah Jahan himself. Some tips before visiting the Taj Mahal: Don’t bring headphones, food or tripods as they will be confiscated during bag check, also refrain from using a guide as many locals pose as them without being certified.

Agra Fort – extraordinary red sandstone

Agra Fort, Rakabganj, Agra, Uttar Pradesh 282003, India

Another great site is the Agra Fort – this historic fort is located in the center and was the main residence for the emperors of the Mughal dynasty up to 1638 (which was when India’s capital moved from Agra to Delhi). The Fort is open from sunrise to sunset all days of the week. The Mughal architecture and red tinge of the building make it an iconic piece of Indian architecture. Make sure to check out the Hall of Public Audience as well as the Delhi Gate, the most popular of the four gates at the Agra Fort.
