“It’s like being back 60-80 years ago with all the modern luxury.”

Silverado Resort is one of the oldest hotels in Napa Valley. As a former plantation house that was converted into a hotel, the main entrance is an idyllic illustration of traditional, elegant luxury. The atmosphere and design of the hotel is old-fashioned and feels like a throwback to the 80s and 90s. In a time of sleek boutique hotels and minimalist design, a place like Silverado feels vintage but familiar. It’s a place where everyone can feel comfortable and relax, including families with children, couples of all ages, group getaways and business retreats.

Almost all of the rooms are junior suites or full-sized suites with very few standard hotel room types. All of them come with outdoor space which is an integral part of the experience. The hotel grounds are green and lush with gorgeous flowers and foliage everywhere you look. You can enjoy being outside at every given moment, whether you’re sipping tea on your balcony, walking to the main mansion, reading on your patio or golfing on property. Every room has a view of the mountains or the golf course, which is thoroughly enjoyable to look at even if you’re not a golfer (like yours truly).

As a sprawling world-class resort, Silverado has everything you need to pamper and entertain yourself without ever having to leave the property. First of all, it’s the only hotel in Napa to have a golf course. Silverado not only has one but two full 18-hole golf courses as part of their property, which is why it gets to host the Safeway Open as part of the PGA Tour. Other than golf, guests also have the option to play tennis at any of the 10 tennis courts on property. There are organized classes and tournaments for both sports as well as other fitness classes at the spa.

The resort spa is the biggest in the valley offering every kind of service one could want. This includes massages, skin care, body treatments, salon, wellness coaches and health cafe. The comprehensive facilities comprise of Jacuzzis, steam rooms, saunas and an expansive fitness center. This doesn’t include the 10 separate swimming pools spread across the property. And with the hotel’s own market where you can get Starbucks coffee, food and wine, there’s really no reason to ever leave the resort unless you want to.

Silverado not only symbolizes traditional luxury, but also represents the larger Napa community where it lives. With a country club that’s over 800 members strong, it’s a place where everyone from Napa Valley has been to at least once to attend social functions or enjoy the facilities. In good old North Bay fashion, the kitchens produce all of their own food with ingredients sourced from local farms in the area. The main restaurant is very farm-to-table, highlighting the region’s bountiful produce and livestock. And of course the restaurants and bars offer an extensive wine list, showing off Napa’s world renowned vineyards.

Despite the wildfires that ravaged Sonoma County last fall, Silverado was fortunately not affected. There were fires going on by the main mansion and behind the spa, but luckily neither of the buildings caught on fire and the resort was left untouched. As the community rebuilds from the damages, Silverado continues to operate stronger than ever.

Staying at Silverado Resort and Spa means experiencing a timeless and traditional piece of Napa. The wonderful resort manager, Adrian Gonzalez describes it best:

“When you get here it’s like you’re in a different world, a different time. Everything is available to you. The resort may be traditional and old-fashioned in the design and the layout, but you can find anything you want here state-of-the-art. It’s like being back 60-80 years ago with all the modern luxury that any other resort can offer and you are in the heart of Napa.”
