Inside Hilton Molino Stucky Venice: From Old Flour Mill To Grand 5-Star Hotel

The grand crimson structure of Hilton Molino Stucky Venice sits proudly at the edge of the tranquil Venetian Island of Giudecca. It beckons to the ferry riders traversing the Venetian Lagoon, with the promise of the elegance and luxury that the historic building holds within.

Hilton Molino Stucky Venice is perhaps the most unique hotel in Venice for more reasons than one. First of all, the building itself used to be a flour mill (hence, Molino means mill in Italian). Founded by the charming Swiss-Venetian entrepreneur, Giovanni Stucky, the flour mill was a vital industrial power in the region from the late 19th century to mid-20th century. It produced 50 tons of flour a day and also included a pasta factory. The building’s sweeping tower is the second tallest structure in Venice after the Campanile di San Marco.

The mill was abandoned in 1955 after the war and the death of Giovanni Stucky. The majestic neogothic building was approved to become a hotel and the new luxury hotel opened in 2007. Hilton Molino Stucky Venice is now the largest hotel and convention complex in all of Venice, with 367 rooms.

The former flour mill has been outfitted into a sumptuous luxury hotel with all the modern trappings and amenities you expect from a five-star hotel. The rooms are bright and comfortable, decorated in classic understated elegance. Each of the rooms feature hand painted murals of Venetian scenes and artifacts which illustrate the city’s history and intimate ties to the water. The rooms either look out to the historic neogothic factory, or to a beautiful scenic view of Venice across the water.

The hotel’s location on Giudecca Island allows visitors an opportunity to explore the other side of the Venetian Lagoon, and escape the tourist trap of the city center. Giudecca is still a sleepy part of town, where many local Venetians still reside. The charming streets through residences are quiet with small canals. The main promenade by the ferry stop is lined with laidback bars and restaurants with romantic tables for two right next to the water. And of course, you the get the pretty view of the Venetian skyline on the other side. Don’t let the hotel’s location outside of the main tourist hub keep you from discovering a lovely, untapped part of Venice.

Skyline is one of the few places in the city where you can find creative cocktails by master mixologists. The bartenders whip up a special cocktail for every season, from Valentine’s Day to Christmas to Carnival.
