How Mama Shelter Prague Boasts Fun & Homey Goodness

Move over Los Angeles! We got a new favorite Mama in town!

Why we love this: It’s none other than the newer and bigger Mama Shelter Prague halfway around the world! Mama Shelter Prague boasts 238 rooms, much bigger than most Mama Shelter properties, which means more space for even more of the brand’s fun, colorful homey goodness! From the sparkling lobby to the comfy decked out rooms, staying at Mama Shelter Prague is effortlessly fabulous from top to bottom.

The Hotel:

As expected from any Mama Shelter property, everything about the hotel exudes fun. Every moment inside is a vibrant treat for the senses. The uber-hip lobby is filled with furniture outfitted in jewel tones, stacks of travel and design books, arcade games, pool table and an impromptu movie theater next to the entrance, because why not?

The fun continues the further in you go with more arcade games, foosball tables, board games and art on the walls, on the ceiling and on the floor. Funky, whimsical art pops out at you literally everywhere you look. The cantina is set up like a co-working space with plenty of stations to work, eat and chill. The huge bar, which nearly covers the entire length of the room, has enough barstools around it to fit you and all of your new best friends from the cantina. There’s even an incredibly spacious outdoor terrace, which stretches along the length of the building, that’s just as adorably decorated with striped tents and deck chairs. Mama Shelter’s designers always create public spaces which encourage effortless socialization among guests. Thus, the amplified size of Mama Shelter Prague provides tons of spaces that make it very easy to meet fellow jetsetters whenever you feel like during your stay.

The Rooms:

The hotel rooms are chic, cute and cozy. They achieve the ultimate goal of maximizing both style and function. Sleek organic furniture contrasted against geometric carpets and colorful cushions with pompoms make the room pop from every angle. Inside the rooms, it’s possible to fully relax while still enjoying a stimulating aesthetic experience. Add in a perfect view of Prague’s pretty pastel-colored buildings below, and you’ve got a winner!

Mama Shelter aspires to be affordable luxury for everyone. Medium Mama rooms start at 60€ a night, which still include all the essentials like mini fridge, lock box and desk. If you’re willing to splurge a little more, we highly recommend the XXL Mama, which is the property’s beautiful one-bedroom suite. With two bathrooms, gorgeous custom furniture and all the funky Taschen art books you’ll ever want to read, the XXL Mama costs a cool 119€ per night and worth every penny!

The Restaurant:

Mama’s Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner on the first floor. Mama’s continental breakfast buffet is always a lovely affair to wake up to. Expect a full selection of fresh breads and baked goods, hot eggs, bacon and sausages, and yummy cheeses, teas and coffees. The restaurant rolls out a weekly lunch menu with different courses on each day of the week. It’s the perfect way to try different Czech dishes like pork neck or tenderloin with cream sauce throughout your stay.

Thankfully the regular menu has Mama’s Homemade Goulash with dumplings on it so you can eat that Czech classic any time you please! Other than the goulash, the restaurant menu has a wide range of modern international flavors which Mama’s popular restaurants are known for. Whether you’re hankering for a duck confit salad, gyoza, quinoa poke bowl, ribs or a good old oven-baked pizza, Mama has got you covered all day!

The super long, sleek bar, which stretches across the hall, is a swanky drinking hole for both locals and guests alike. The cocktail list of Mama’s tingly, fruity concoctions taste just as colorful as the surrounding interior. We’re talking Moscow mules with raspberry vodka and raspberry puree and Hendrick’s with apricot liqueur and bitters. Also, don’t leave without trying a glass of the divine Muškát Moravský, a local Czech wine that’s mostly dry with the perfect touch of fruity sweetness. It’ll definitely have you reaching for the bottle while you bump along to the DJ spinning music on stage.

The Neighborhood:

True jetsetters will be stoked to know that Mama Shelter Prague is not located in the main tourist district of Old Town. The hotel is located in District 7, aka Holešovice, aka the coolest up-and-coming area in Prague. Holešovice currently sports the title of “the heart of hipster Prague” and is home to many of the trendiest bars, cafés, shops and galleries that the locals are going to these days. But most of all, we just love that it’s quiet and not overrun with tourists like it is across the bridge!

There’s loads of stuff to do in District 7 without having to cross over to the madness that is Old Town. The National Gallery is less than a block from the hotel and the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art is within walking distance. Walking through Letna Park is an absolute must so that you can get all the views of the buildings across the Vltava River and grab a drink at the beer garden inside the park. Bar Cobra and Cross Club are the names on everyone’s lips for the best nightlife spots to get excellent drinks, dance and even order some delicious grub.

As any savvy traveler knows, the location of your stay matters, and Holešovice is the perfect location for the hotel. With Prague’s hippest neighborhood at your fingertips, you’ll be able to experience the city just like a local while staying at Mama Shelter Prague!
