Like all other Kimpton Hotels in the boutique hotel brand, Solamar promises to be a chic, modern and down-to-earth getaway. The hotel is intimate and seductive, accented throughout with dark purple and burgundy. The classic brick building feels historic from the facade but inside everything is polished and new. The sleek decor of the facilities make it an appealing option for young jetsetters and millennials looking for a contemporary and low-key place to stay.
The guest rooms are simple but comfortable. The hotel features standard deluxe rooms with one king or two queen beds. The bold colored Rococo designs of the carpet and furniture give the room a plush and artistic feel. Guests can and definitely should opt for the Skyline rooms which have cool views of Gaslamp District’s urban landscape. There are also Spa rooms which feature special oversized tubs for extra relaxation. The Honor Bar in the rooms is exceptionally exciting, fully stocked with medium bottles of premium alcohol and a wide range of artisan sweets and snacks.
The hotel has all of the perks and amenities that come with staying with the Kimpton brand. The daily “SoCal Hour” (obviously everyone’s favorite) gives tastings of traditional wines and beers, just like you can expect at every other Kimpton Hotel. The fitness and wellness offerings will satisfy any health nut looking to stay fit during their stay. Custom-designed PUBLIC bikes are available for rent for all guests and there’s a yoga mat placed in every room. There are yoga classes on the rooftop deck by the pool on selected days for you to use that yoga mat. In-room spa services can be delivered to your door as well.
The rooftop pool and bar is one of the best in San Diego to hang out and be seen during pool party season. Nestled amongst the historic buildings of the Gaslamp District, the vibe of the rooftop pool is buzzy and vibrant. Upper East Bar is the perfect outdoor space to meet people for refreshing cocktails and small bites (and don’t forget happy hour!) at the plenty of spacious tables and seating areas next to the pool. The perimeter is also lined with colorful cabanas and tables to rent out for groups looking to lounge and get bottle service. We absolutely love the bean bag toss and shuffle board games available to play with making it the ultimate summer fun destination.
The hotel’s in-house restaurant Jsix offers a convenient gourmand dining venue for guests and locals alike. The Modern American restaurant boasts an eclectic menu of multi-ethnic twists, comfort food and fine dining classics. The fun, creative dishes perfectly represent Executive Chef Anthony Sinsay, a Filipino-American local who grew up in San Diego. Jsix is committed to sourcing local ingredients, so you know that everything you order will be fresh and sustainable. Our personal recommendations include the Seared Sea Scallops which are perfectly juicy and soft and worth dreaming about. The Sweet Corn Bucatini is the most interesting seasonal dish featuring kalamansi lime, black truffle and caramelized egg yolk. The bar is worth visiting on its own with an incredibly extensive list of domestic and imported liquors, craft beers and top-tier mixology.
For any travel savvy jetsetter looking for a both convenient and trendy place to stay, look no further than Kimpton Solamar Hotel. Offering comprehensive amenities and happening food and beverage options, Solamar has everything one needs for a hip getaway in San Diego!
