Are you planning on going on a long journey on the road? We understand that travelling long distances with no activities can be long and boring, and not enjoyable at all. In today’s article, we’re going to take a look at just some of the ways you can travel and have fun at the same time.
Learn a Language
Depending on your travels, and if you want to spend some time educating yourself, why not learn a new language? Languages are some of the best forms of education as you never know when you might need them – or, why not learn sign language to communicate with deaf people.
Learning any kind of language can be an amazing way to educate yourself, as well as a fun and enjoyable activity to use when you’re travelling long distances.
9 Pots of Gold (Fun Gambling)
As long as you’re over the legal gambling age restriction on your travels, why not take up some gambling? The exciting game 9 Pots Of Gold, is a slot game that you can play for free, or for real money that gives you some great fun whilst you are travelling.
This slot game is exciting because of the value you can get out of it whilst travelling, along with the ability to get some wilds, free spins and much more that makes this game super enjoyable. We highly recommend it if you want to have a fun and addicting activity to do on your travels!
Listen to a Podcast or Audiobook
If you’re not up for anything social, why not listen to an audiobook or podcast. There are so many audiobooks and podcasts that are out there that you will love. These kinds of audio-based entertainment forms will not only help you pass the time through your long travels, but will also help you keep up to date with news, your favourite creators, and even stories that you wanted to read but never had the time.
Although we don’t fully recommend listening through earphones if you’re driving by yourself, why not put it over the radio and get listening on your journeys.
Play the Car (or Plate) Game
Depending on where you’re going, you should be able to play the Car or Plate game. In some US states, you can guess the state of the next car you see coming, but in the UK and other counties – why not take guesses on the car. To play, simply look into the distance and each player has one guess per car. This means that if a car is coming towards you in the distance, you all have one guess as to what the car is, and once it’s in – that’s it. The person who can guess or notice the car before it passes you gets a point!
This can get boring, but if you’ve got people who love cars, then this might be a very one-sided game!
Have a Sing Song
Regardless of if you are travelling by yourself, or with some friends or family – why not break out into song? Songs are some of the most enjoyable ways to pass the time when travelling. If you and your friends or family all have similar song preferences, why not make a playlist before you travel?
Not only will playing these songs help you pass the time but if you felt like it – have a sing-along! This can be a great way for you to pass the time, and make the journey feel shorter! Just make sure your passengers also like it, otherwise, you may make some journey enemies in the long run!
Decorate your Window
If you know the owner of the car or van you’re travelling in, or if you own it yourself – why not decorate the windows? Although you’re not allowed to cover the front windscreen or front windows, if you’re sat in the back you’re able to decorate to your heart’s content! Similarly to our drawing activity below, why not take some reusable sticker paper and draw or put some stickers on your windows to help you pass the time! (Scraping them off again might be a little tricky, but can also help pass the time if you like doing things like that!).
Draw/Model
When travelling the long roads, you might often find yourself visiting and viewing some very beautiful locations. If you like to have a draw, even if you’re not very good at it – why not take out a drawing pad and draw some of your surroundings. Although you might be vibrating a bit, why not take a cushion with yourself and just rest on that! We think you’ll come up with some nice drawings!
Something else you could play with is some kind of modelling clay, or playdoh, that allows you to sculpt and play around with some putty in your hand. This can not only help you pass the time but you can keep it as a memory to keep when you get back, or to your location.
When to know when to Switch Activities
When driving on a long road trip, or just travelling in general, there is a good chance that most activities that you take part in will not last the duration of the journey. This means that when you’re driving (or being driven hopefully!), you will need a few activities.
Knowing when to switch can make all the difference when travelling, if you start with gambling or end with it, we recommend that you complete an activity, take a break and maybe take a quick power nap before moving on to the next activity! Or, why not take a few moments before your journey and plan out what you can do, or what you want to do when going through your activities.
All in all, if you’re going on a journey on the road and you’re expecting it to take a good few hours, then why not take just some of these activities and unbore yourself! Let us know how you stay busy when on long journeys!
