THE DESIGN
The palace of the Marqués de Caro is truly one of the most beautiful buildings in Valencia. The Neo-Baroque exterior is dreamy, with tall romantic balconies and detailed arches sculpted into the grey façade. Beyond it, this particular palace contains historic layers and a multitude of features that date back all the way to the 12th century.
The bones of the palace are made of Arabic walls and archways that have been preserved to remain on display throughout the palace and in many of the guestrooms. Roman mosaics and Moorish artifacts are displayed around the hotel; artfully integrated into chic, contemporary design.

THE ROOMS
Each of the 26 rooms has its own unique story and is named after the function the space previously served in the Marquis’ palace. The rooms include the Marquis Suite, previously the grand ballroom and tearoom, where guests can stare up at the dreamy Rococo scene painted on the ceiling. The former Palace Wine Cellar is now a palatial suite, featuring part of the Arabic Wall of Valencia.

Other guest rooms include the Palace Kitchen Armory, Dining Room, and even the Cats’ Room, which is where the Marquis’ cats slept peacefully in their own quarters. Caro Hotel does an excellent job shedding light on the history of the building, as each room features a QR code that leads guests to an informational video about historical features of their hotel room.

All the rooms embody sleek, contemporary furnishings that exude modernity and luxury. The minimalist design maximizes space, as well as ancient stories that remain. Bathrooms are luxe and spacious, while many of them come with a deep bathtub for total relaxation. Many of the rooms also come with balconies or floor-to-ceiling windows that look out to lovely views of Calle Almirante or neighboring buildings of the old quarter surrounding the hotel.

THE RESTAURANT

Alma del Temple is the restaurant connected to the hotel, where the same 12th-century Arab wall runs through the space. Alma del Temple dives into long, if not rich history of all the civilizations that once occupied the space where the restaurant stands. Diners can travel through a culinary tapestry of Roman, Christian, and Arab gastronomy. The menu offers eclectic options such as oxtail empanadas, seaweed risotto with dill, ajoblanco with cured tuna, and even a hearty eggplant parmigiana.

THE LOCATION
The street where the hotel stands, Calle Almirante, is pretty and scenic, with classic buildings of casco antiguo neighboring Palacio de Marqués de Caro. Located within the city center without being on the busiest thoroughfares, Caro Hotel offers ease and convenience for those who wish to explore Valencia. The hotel is also close to beautiful Jardin del Turia, Mercat de Colon, and multiple transport options making it easy to catch a ride to the beach or Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias.

WHY WE LOVE IT
Caro Hotel is the perfect blend of grand history and contemporary luxury. The former palace of the Marqués de Caro is one of the most unique buildings in the heart of Valencia and a joy to discover.
