Get Hooked On Los Angeles’ Best Pizza

When it comes to pizza California often gets sneered at by our distant national peers such as New York or Chicago.

Why? It’s because rather than offering the best thick cuts of dough loaded with gooey cheese and sauce that come with 5000 calories a slice, Californians like to make pizzas on crispier crusts sprinkled with artisan cheeses, herbs and vegetables to show off how much we love produce and gourmet food. And Abbot’s Pizza Company in Venice Beach perfects the deliciously fresh foodie way in which Californians love to eat pizza.

Abbot’s pizza is everything that East Coast and Midwest Americans believe pizza should not be. For one, they make their pizza out of bagel crusts, so the edge of your pizza is sprinkled with delicious sesame or poppy seeds. Deciding on which pizza you want takes as long as picking a flavor at an ice cream shop. Their menu boasts over ten heavenly medleys of gourmet pizzas such as the Gypsy Pie with “Spinach, Mushroom, Onion, Tomato, Ricotta & Mozzarella Cheeses on an Olive Pesto Sauce,” Chicken Curry with “Marinated Chicken, Honey, Curry, Onion, and Pineapple with Mozzarella Cheese on an Alfredo Sauce” and my favorite, Popeye’s Chicken, which has “Spinach, Mushroom, Onion, Tequila Lime Marinated Chicken with Mozzarella Cheese on a Garlic Pesto Sauce.” Of course you can opt for just cheese and ask for a slice with whatever toppings and sauce you personally want. And to top it all off, the best part is salad-ifying your pizza. For a little bit extra they’ll add on a delicious salad of fresh mixed greens, feta, basil and avocado right on top of your slice.

Pizza definitely doesn’t get more foodie and Californian than that. Every time I go to Abbot’s Pizza Company, I am reminded that it’s the best pizza I’ve ever had in my life and it’s absolutely worth the hellish traffic ride to Santa Monica on the I-10. Next time you’re cruising through Venice Beach, be sure to pop into Abbot’s for a slice, which will make it the most perfect beach day ever.
