Typically the point of a road trip is to relax and often times enjoy the journey more than the destination.

This is why this is the most important category, why it is important to play songs whose purpose is to mellow you out on the road rather than tense you up and force you into anxiety attacks after 12 hours of driving, and why I am going to throw a few extra songs at you for this category. Recline the seat, relax, roll down the windows, and turn these songs up.
1. Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes – “I Don’t Wanna Pray”
2. Family of the Year – “Hero”
3. The Bamboos – ‘The Wilhelm Scream’
4. Sticky Fingers – “Australia Street”
5. Jamie Cullum – “These Are The Days”
6. The Paper Kites – “Featherstone”
7. The Middle East – “Blood”
8. Rogue Wave – “Lake Michigan”
9. Capital Cities – “Farrah Fawcett Hair”
10. Sugar Ray – “Someday”
Other artists in this category: Jack Johnson, John Butler Trio, Blind Pilot, Fences, Release the Sunbird, Angus & Julia Stone, Of Monsters and Men, Trails and Ways.
Obviously I didn’t include everything and often the music most enjoyed on a road trip can come down to individual taste. If you are trying to take a weeklong road trip rocking out to Avenged Sevenfold or Skrillex, be my guest and have a good time, I just hope that I’m not in your car. Hopefully my tastes and ideas can give you a guideline to creating your perfect road trip playlist, improve the quality of your next trip, and introduce you to some great new music.
