Life Gallery Athens is definitely unique from all other options in the city. The beautiful and modern hotel sits atop a plot of luscious green land surrounding by vegetation, a fairly rare sight for the streets of this ancient city. The hotel is built with sleek lines and filled with futuristic décor, making you feel more like James Bond than a humble tourist.
During our stay, we were given a beautiful room with views of the garden area and a spacious patio. We were greeted with a bottle of local spirits and a lovely jar of orange flavored chocolates, something that was much appreciated after the long trek from the island of Naxos. To be completely honest, when we first hoped in the cab and told the driver our destination, the hour plus commute time was a shock. We had landed very close to the heart of the city and were extremely confused that the hotel was located so far out of the way. With the encouragement of our driver, however, we decided to risk the commute and see the hotel for ourselves. Sure enough, the driver who had so persistently insisted that the hotel was “very nice,” was right.
Now, there is no doubt that this hotel’s target audience are business men who are traveling to Athens. It is located in a traditionally residential area, thus walking to quaint local restaurants and bars isn’t really realistic. You are in fact out of the city, if you are not planning on taking a cab to and from the hotel to the main attractions, it could be a bit of a hassle. But distance from the heart of the city does come with a number of bonus features, such as: extensive outdoor space, larger rooms, and a generally nicer hotel for a good price.
Not to mention, the breakfast is INCREDIBLE. A spread fit for a king, with options to fit anyone’s dietary restrictions. The service was absolutely phenomenal, so friendly every morning, and always insisting on pouring that extra cup of coffee as fuel for all the sightseeing that day. Each morning I enjoyed a beautiful yogurt parfait, composed of fresh local products and, of course, decadent Greek yogurt.
During our time at Life Gallery Athens Hotel, we also enjoyed one dinner at the restaurant and a few glasses of wine at the hotel bar. The ambiance was quite enjoyable, and not what you would usually expect from a hotel. Cool jazz music played in the background and the cleverly lit surrounding created an ambiance that felt as though we were in the coolest spot in the whole city. The food was also delightful. I enjoyed an enormous Greek Salad, filled with a plentiful amount of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, and feta cheese.
All in all, our stay was beautiful. Life Gallery is the perfect place for business men looking for an oasis, or a larger family who needs space to spread out. The commute in and out of the city, is definitely not as easy as the hotel is located in the heart of Athens; however, the distance from the hustle and bustle does create a rather safe haven that is refreshing to come back to after a long day in the hot Athenian sun.
