The historic downtown area of Los Angeles has grown incredibly up and coming and hip within the last few years.

Thanks to great bars, food stops, urban parks and cultural events, downtown L.A. is way cooler and exciting to hang out in than posh and snooty West Hollywood. Thanks to its high density of bars within walking distance from each other, whether you’re in the mood for swanky, hipster or casual, the hub of downtown L.A. boasts some of the best bars in Los Angeles. Here is the outline of the usual pub crawl I take through my favorite bars whenever I’m in the area.
Perch
Nothing beats this stylish and lovely rooftop bar nestled amongst the tallest skyscrapers of L.A. With twinkling lights, decorative loveseats and classy glass wraparound, Perch is the best place to kick back and enjoy a glass of wine. The best time to go is between 6-8 as the sun sets and the sky is still illuminated by twilight. Downstairs, there is also a charming French bistro that’s great for brunch and mimosas on the weekends.

Seven Grand
Seven Grand is hands down my favorite bar in Los Angeles—possibly my favorite bar ever. It is a dapper, sophisticated yet laidback whiskey bar that boasts over 100 different types of whiskey and the best old-fashioned you will ever try in your life. There’s live jazz from 10 PM to 1 AM every Sunday to Wednesday and smartly dressed bartenders who will go through the menu with you if you have questions. Seven Grand is an absolute gem and the best place to get tipsy on any day of the week.

Octopus
Here you’ll find reverse Happy Hour from 9 PM to closing—enough said. Octopus is a fun Japanese restaurant where you can get turnt and sloppy for less than $20 with all your friends. It’s spacious with yummy happy hour food specials, perfect for larger groups looking for a more upbeat atmosphere.

Casey’s Irish Pub
If you´re looking for a much more quiet and unpretentious place to socialize and unwind, Casey´s Irish Pub is what you´re looking for. It has a much more laidback and down-to-earth vibe than the surrounding bars, although the crowd can seem a bit bro-ey at times. With dim interior lighting and comfortable seating booths, it’s an intimate place to gather and catch up with friends over some dark brews.

Library Bar
Library Bar is also a local favorite due to its cozy, pleasant and bookish atmosphere thanks to its charming interior with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, plush leather couches and dim lighting. The drinks are in an agreeable price range and there are appetizing gastropub items such as bacon wrapped dates and pork belly skewers. Library Bar is the best place to don your smartest outfit and hang out with some of the coolest, hippest Angelenos around.
