Famous recipes and secret treasures are waiting to be discovered. Tuscany is known for its beautiful hills and exquisite, hidden towns.

Wine connoisseurs know Tuscany for its rich reds and lush whites. Behind all of this, though, are famous recipes and secret treasures waiting to be discovered. One of the best parts of traveling to Tuscany is the food…so make sure you don’t miss some of these favorites.
1. Cheese
The absolute best food-related activity was our visit to a cheesemaking factory! We were able to feed the cows and hear about how they are taken care of and respected, stretch mozzarella into stars and braids, and tasted some of the best cheese I’ve had in my life…I can still taste the ricotta!

2. Wild Boar
Wild boar is in season during late spring, early summer months which means that it is a key element in several fantastic dishes. From wild boar Bolognese to wild boar lasagna and meat spread, we never had a bad dish with the delectable meat.

3. Pasta (especially Bolognese)
The one constant in Italian travel is the pasta, specifically pasta Bolognese. Most local places make their own pasta and it’s delicious every single time.

4. Wine
Wine tasting in Tuscany is a must but *pro-tip, try to find a winery that does a wine tasting with dinner. They will be guaranteed to serve flavorful, local dishes and the wine is better with perfectly matched Italian plates.

5. Pizza
Take a pizza making class! No matter how you’ve learned to make pizza before, Italian tip and toppings cannot be beat.

6. Truffle Oil
Never will you ever taste better truffle oil than from the hidden truffle gems of Tuscany. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can sign up for your own truffle hunt…or, just enjoy the aftermath of perfect truffle oil on pasta, lasagna, or meat…which brings us to…
7. Sandwiches
Sandwiches! Italian meat, cheese, and local greens create a whole new sandwich experience. Paired with fresh bread and veggies, these sandwiches redefine the word.

8. Gelato
No meal in Italy is complete without gelato. Personally, I try a new flavor at each gelato stand but some people choose a favorite and stand by it loyally. Whatever you decide…never skip the gelato!
