This weird little living room of a venue turned out to be a rad little band room in Canberra.

We’re featuring Australian band Halcyon Drive’s diary entries from different Australian cities every week. Now turn up their latest single “The Birds” to set the mood, and let’s head out on tour with them!

Thursday 12th October: The Front, Canberra

It’s not every day you turn up to the venue in the late afternoon for a soundcheck and 100 people are already milling about out the front. But The Front in Canberra was definitely no ordinary venue! Unbeknownst to us, coinciding with our show was the annual local art prize, being hosted in the very room we were to play two hours later. What ensued was a fairly hilarious evening of setup around the couches, cafe chairs, tables and art punters. Nonetheless, this weird little living room of a venue turned out to be a rad little band room! It was great to have a bunch of locals stick around to watch and get involved, many hanging out to say hi, grabbing t shirts and cds after the show which was an awesome buzz for us. Most definitely a worthwhile stop on our road trip up to Sydney, and one we won’t forget anytime soon. See you next time Canberra!
