For a taste of the iconic Swedish meatballs in Malmö, head over to Spoonery, a cozy restaurant offering coffee on the house until 2 p.m. Word on the street was that it served the best Swedish meatballs in town, and it sure did.

Köttbullar, the meatball’s local name, traveled from Turkey with King Charles II after his exile in the Ottoman Empire during the 18th century. A milky play on the Turkish köfte, Swedish meatballs adored by millions today were first noted in a Swedish cookbook in the 1750s.

Topped with zesty and beautifully fiery lingonberry, each bite into the meatball was juicy, tender with subtle spices of nutmeg and allspice. A delicious combo with creamy gravy and the lingonberry’s tart counter play.

So comforting!
