Set above the historic Spice Square, Nomad Marrakech brings a contemporary perspective to Moroccan cuisine, pairing locally inspired dishes with minimalist interiors and panoramic rooftop views of the city’s terracotta rooftops.

Tucked within the winding alleyways of Marrakech’s historic Medina, Nomad has become one of the city’s most recognizable restaurants for contemporary Moroccan dining. Opened in 2014 by restaurateurs Kamal Laftimi and Sebastian de Gzell, the restaurant occupies a former carpet shop overlooking Rahba Kedima, also known as the Spice Square, a historic marketplace once associated with the city’s grain and spice trade.
Spread across four floors, the space combines intimate indoor dining areas with two rooftop terraces, offering a welcome retreat from the lively souks below. Its interior design, developed with designer Romain Meniere, takes a modern approach to Moroccan craftsmanship, blending clean architectural lines, natural materials, understated furnishings and warm neutral tones.
The menu emphasizes fresh market produce, aromatic spices and seasonal ingredients, with plenty of choices for vegetarian diners alongside seafood and meat dishes. Among the popular selections are the courgette and feta fritters, crisp on the outside with a delicate savory filling, and the vegetarian pastilla, which combines spiced vegetables, caramelized onions, dates and goat cheese within delicate pastry.
Other highlights include sardine tart, grilled lamb chops and slow-cooked lamb dishes that showcase Morocco’s rich culinary traditions. For dessert, the orange and almond-flour cake, perfumed with cardamom and ginger, offers a fragrant finish, while the Moroccan-inspired affogato combines espresso, vanilla ice cream and warming spices. Fresh juices, Moroccan mint tea and herbal infusions complement the menu, making the restaurant particularly appealing for a leisurely afternoon meal.
Beyond the food, Nomad’s greatest attraction is arguably its rooftop setting, where diners can take in sweeping views across the Medina’s rooftops, minarets and, on particularly clear days, the distant Atlas Mountains. The terraces provide a different perspective on Marrakech, with the bustling Spice Square unfolding below and the city’s architectural silhouettes stretching toward the horizon.

- Lunch is another excellent option for enjoying the views in natural daylight.
- Nomad focuses on non-alcoholic drinks, so its selection of fresh juices, teas and herbal infusions takes center stage.
