Don’t worry, it’s not just you. France can make almost any other destination seem pointless. However, with a country so filled with tourists, some people like to venture into lesser known territories, of course with a stop in Paris. Let’s look at what parts of France are waiting for you to visit.

Paris is Always a Good Idea

Okay, so maybe this isn’t your final stop, but it sure is a fabulous way to start your trip. You will most likely land at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport in the capital of Paris. Once safely on land and baggage in tow, taxis and shuttles await. Depending on what type of person you are and which kind of accommodation you prefer and have booked, you’ll likely be somewhere in the center of town or in one of the surrounding districts of Paris. While some people may run at the thought of being in a busy city, there are good things about such a touristy place, namely that the Parisians think in terms of tourists, meaning they cater to all kinds of travelers and budgets. Whether you prefer to be in the thick of things and visit the Eiffel Tower for example or keep it more low-key and go underground with tickets for catacombs of Paris, the good people of France have got you covered. Just remember to get your Eiffel Tower tickets in advance and preferably online so that you can avoid standing in long queues. Paris is well worth a visit, even if just for a few days, but how about going North for a bit?

Exploring the North of France

Located a 2-hour train ride away from Paris, you will get to the city of Nantes, referred to as the quirky part of France. What many don’t know is that Nantes, having been partly destroyed in World War II, was designated in the 60s as one of the eight provincial counterweights to reduce the dominance of Paris on French national life. Over the past few decades, it has become increasingly dynamic, with a diversified economic structure and various fields growing in size. The city is a playground for artists, engineers and students, cementing the feel of creativity and education in the air. If you are arty and eclectic kind of person, don’t skip Nantes. On a side not, there are a few things to know before you travel to France, not least that the Parisians enjoy hearing their own language and learning a few French terms will go a long way.

Traveling to Nantes is more than just a tick on your bucket list, it’s a place where you can dream big and live large, but not in the traditional sense. Luxury in terms of possessions is not the top priority in this northern part of France, its much more about luxury of the mind and thoughts, a place to broaden one’s horizons and connect with one’s soul. Beautiful parks and historic walkways give people who are lucky enough to visit Nantes, the feeling that anything is possible. Grab a blanket and take some downtime in the lush green gardens, of course while eating baguette and sipping some Cacolac, a traditional non-alcoholic French beverage.

Visiting and Hiking through Provence in the South of France

The famous vineyards, local markets and the Calanques are some of the things that make this place a perfect destination for summer holidays. If you have and take the time to travel down south, southeast to be exact, you will get to a region bordering Italy and the Mediterranean Sea called Provence, an area filled with cultural heritage and mouthwatering cuisine. Provence is said to be among the top beautiful cities in Western Europe. Apart from visiting places and experiencing the region’s beauty and historic culture, you might consider trying out some of the locals’ meals – the French love to share their culinary treats and experience with interested tourists. The cuisine of Provence is similar to the one of Italy’s eastern border, so you can’t really go wrong. When you visit this region, you will encounter a lot of flavor in the air. Take your time and enjoy the beautiful meals accompanied by the sweet wine produced in this region.

Since hiking in nature can often take you into unknown territories, it’s essential to use a route planner and follow said route by means of an app or map. There are many activities that you can enjoy in this region. If you are good at hiking, then there is room for you. Go to the Calanques, a place that is best for hiking. Remember to choose a trail that’s appropriate for your fitness level and experience. Don’t push yourself too hard or choose a trail that’s too difficult. The South of France is filled with hilly areas and mountains if you drive a short distance out of the urban areas. There are magnificent inland hiking trails plus incredible coastal vistas. Those who love water activities can do white water rafting along the Gorges Du Verdon. As you can see, you could spend months traveling throughout France, but for now… take the trip, even if it’s short.
