While they are in search of the killer, we still get the killer views of beautiful Mexico.

Netflix’s Mexican mystery thriller, Who Killed Sara? was released on March 24th 2021, starring Manolo Cardona as revenge-seeking ex-con Alex Guzman. After being released from prison for a crime he was framed for 18 years ago, Guzman seeks justice by destroying the family that ruined his life and investigates the murder of his sister, Sara (played by Ximena Lamadrid.) The Lazcano family becomes the center of Alex’s wrath for the parts they played in the destruction of his family.

The series also stars Gines Garcia Millan as the manipulative patriarch Don Cesar Lazcano, Alejandro Nones as naïve eldest / CEO Rodolfo Lazcano, Eugenio Siller as outcasted middle child Jose Maria “Chema” Lazcano, Carolina Miranda as Alex’s love interest and youngest sister Elisa Lazcano, and Claudia Ramirez as religious matriarch Mariana Lazcano.

According to Marie Claire, there were multiple scenes that took place indoors at private residences, so it makes sense why none of the exact locations are found. If incoming visitors want to live lavishly as the Lazcanos intended (minus the murder,) there are plenty of options to choose from.

Being that Who Killed Sara is a Mexican production, where else better to film than around Mexico; highlighting its beautiful beaches, resorts and architecture. The three main locations that made up the series were: Mexico City, Acapulco and Valle de Bravo.

Mexico City is made up of several cultural landmarks, such as Palacio de Bellas Artes, a.k.a the Palace of Fine Arts. The massive marble building was designed by Italian architect Adamo Boari, completed in 1934 and serves as an opera house and concert hall. The restoration of the building was finished in 2002 with the help of the World Monuments Fund.

Diana the Huntress (a.k.a Diana Cazadora) is one of the Greek goddesses of the hunt. During Alex’s quest to find out who killed his sister, he started receiving messages from a strange number under the guise of this statue. The fountain where she stands is located near the Paseo de Reforma in Mexico City. According to Greekgodsandgoddesses.net, although Diana was a symbol of purity, she was also said to have an unpredictable and, at times, vengeful nature.

Acapulco is a coastal city in Mexico and his home to the most breathtakingly luxurious resorts and beaches. In the series, the Lazcanos were no strangers to tanning at places with a view like this.

Most of the flashback scenes took place in Valle de Bravo, where Sara took her last adventure before falling to her death. Every character had a chance to revisit that fateful day at the gorgeous lake. According to Architectural Digest, this town is considered as the Hamptons of Mexico City, filled with affluent and exclusive activities as well as cobblestone-lined streets. Activities of choice: sailing, waterskiing and paragliding…if you’re not slightly traumatized by how Sara dies.
Murder and mystery aside, there is no way of denying the picturesque landscapes of Mexico. Season 3 of Who Killed Sara? is predicted to arrive early 2022.
