You don’t need to be American, celebrate Thanksgiving, or even be in the United States to celebrate the core of this holiday: being thankful for what you have. There’s no other way to show how grateful you are for the privileges and comforts that you have then by giving back to those who don’t. Here are some volunteer opportunities in the Bay Area if you need that extra push!

Glide – @GLIDEsf

Volunteer your time at Glide’s Thanksgiving Celebration and Meals. It’s an all day event with lots of volunteer openings still available!

Glide is located at 330 Ellis Street, San Francisco.

St. Anthony’s – @stanthonysf

Curbside Donation Drive – Participate in the 25th Annual Drive by bringing any donations of food, hygiene items, new socks, hand-knit scarves, and hats! Turkeys are very much appreciated for the annual Thanksgiving dinner the foundation serves.

The Drive will be held: Saturday, November 17th – Thursday, November 22nd, Weekends 9 AM – 3 PM and Weekdays 8 AM – 5 PM

St. Anthony’s is located at 150 Golden Gate Avenue, San Francisco.

San Francisco Food Bank – @SFFoodBank

2. Volunteer your time at the food bank! Tasks involved cleaning produce, repacking bulk food, assembling groceries for seniors, and sorting donations. All ages are encouraged to participate and you an even sign up online. Other volunteer programs include “Pantry to Plate” for the kitchen savvy and “CalFresh Outreach Program” if you are interested in healthy food education.

3. Start a food drive or fund drive with your company, club, or peers. Drives can include monetary or food donations.

The San Francisco Food Bank is located at 900 Pennsylvania Avenue, San Francisco.

The Marin Country Food Bank is located at 75 Digital Drive, Novato.
