Food Trucks! LA’s Curbside Pickup Gone Gourmet

One of the great things about food trucks is that they can travel essentially anywhere.

There are a lot of touristy things that you have to do when you make a trip to the Los Angeles area: go to the beach (usually Venice), walk down Rodeo, try to make it to Disneyland, etc.  The food scene is notorious, and there is one piece of it that I think is most unique: the food trucks.  While for years food trucks have stereotypically only handed out greasy, unappetizing food, they have certainly turned over a new leaf and become gourmet places that people now track down to eat at.

I have eaten at the same food truck in locations thirty miles apart, as they travel to cater to as many customers as possible.  If you are new to the scene, you should look up any congregations of food trucks that spring up where you live. Find when they will be in town.

Relative to where I live, I really enjoy the 1st Thursday Artwalk Food Trucks in San Pedro.  Congregated around South Pacific Avenue and West 7th Street, this event takes place on the first Thursday of every month. Various food trucks, including some of my favorites like Rajun Cajun and India Jones, park on the street corners so you can walk around and try things from different trucks.  This area has a lot of art galleries, so while you walk around to the different trucks, you can stop in and check out all of the local art.

Food trucks bring you all different kinds of gourmet cuisines, from India Jones’ fantastic Tikka Masala to the Grill ‘Em All truck’s exotic Dee Snider hamburger (peanut butter, jelly, bacon, and sriracha).  These cheap eats take you to cool parts of town. They park on iconic streets that are fun to just walk around, such as Melrose or Santa Monica Boulevard. These are definitely a food gem of Los Angeles and are definitely a “must-eat” when you visit!
