Staying at a yurt hotel is a unique lodging experience in Mongolia, they range from ones that span from luxurious to minimum amenities.

Typically located outside of Ulaanbaatar – Mongolia’s capital city – yurt hotels introduce travelers to nomads’ way of life in the vast steppe. Depending on the type of yurt, some may include electricity (considered a luxury,) bathrooms, even water boilers. While the truly rustic yet authentic yurt experiences offer nothing but bed and sheets. For yurts that don’t provide washrooms inside, travelers would need to use a separate outdoor stall.
Locally referred to as ger, yurts are typically made from timber frames that nomads can customarily build and break down within an hour. They’re dotted throughout the countryside, indicating Mongolian nomads’ relocating lifestyle that revolve around settling then moving every few months according to fresh grazing for their livestock.

We stayed at Terelj Lodge, as part of Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, approximately 37 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar. Breakfast and dinner were served in a separate dining area, and part of the nighttime activity included stargazing which was omitted due to heavy rainfall.
Once the morning sun rose and the sky finally cleared, a stunning morning view of steppe’s powerful tranquility was all that mattered.
