St. Peter’s Dome, originally designed by Michaelangelo, is a structural marvel on its own. Featuring mosaic and ornaments, along with busts of Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary and other noteworthy Christian figures; one may be caught gazing at its architectural beauty. After approximately 550 steps to the top, though, it is likely that one is awestruck by the unique horizon.

Laid in front of the sightseer are the views of St. Peter’s Square, the Gardens of Vatican City and Rome itself as well. One can take in the area’s unique composition while catching his or her breath after the upward trek!

Constructed in the 15th century, Piazza Navona is home to several structures that have since been added to the delightful plaza. Sant’Agnese in Agone, a 17th-century Baroque church, along with the three fountains that were erected over the next several hundred years, are all spots that can serve as picturesque locations. Each is unique in its design and history.

At night, though, Piazza Navona becomes an even more breathtaking public square, as street entertainers come together with musical artists, creating a more scenic plaza that uniquely appeals to the senses.

Surrounded by the Villa Borghese gardens, Piazza del Popolo and a magnificent panorama of Rome, the Terrazza del Pincio offers no shortage of places from which one can admire the city’s various beautiful qualities. Looking toward the horizon, the visitor can see the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica, Altare della Patria, which overlooks Piazza Venezia, and the hills of the city.

If one arrives later in the day, they may be able to take in the sunsets for which the terrace is esteemed. The sky’s tint, combined with the city’s architectural characteristics, creates an astonishing landscape.

While the Altare della Patria is controversial due to its grandiose design and history (many medieval structures were demolished to create space for it,) sightseers in the city can agree upon the monument’s gorgeous views. At the top of the National Monument, one may be able to see the Colosseum, ancient forums and noteworthy churches of Rome.

Additionally, hills can be seen at the outskirts of the city, providing for a unique contrast between the area’s urban and rural sections.

The Spanish Steps

Raised in the 18th century to connect the Bourbon Spanish Embassy and church of the Santissima Trinità dei Monti to Piazza di Spagna and the Holy See, the Spanish Steps have allowed passersby to experience the delightful locations for centuries. When looking toward the array of buildings at the top of the 135 steps, one can revel in the true beauty of this picturesque spot.

At night, the light from the square below, along with Basilica di Sant’Ambrogio e Carlo al Corso, makes for a breathtaking memory.
