6 Unforgettable Must-Eat Foods In Florence

Admit it—one of the main reasons you decided to visit Florence is the food.

There’s no shame in this! Florence is absolutely filled with delicious food, and you’re going to want to try as much as you can while you’re there. Since you’re probably already dreaming of the pasta, Chianti, tiramisu and all the foods in Florence that you can’t wait to devour, I’m here to tell you about a few Tuscan delicacies you MUST try during your stay in Florence. I promise these treats won’t disappoint, and I bet they’ll even be some of the highlights of your trip!

1. Burrata

This creamy Italian cheese is so incredible, you won’t be able to get enough. Eat it on bread, on top of pasta, or all by itself! The best burrata I had while in Florence was at the acclaimed restaurant La Giostra, where they serve an appetizer that is a huge bowl of burrata with honey, marmalade, nuts, and citrus to eat with bread. So. Darn. Good.

2. Cheese and Meat Platter

An enormous cheese and meat plate is a quintessentially Tuscan delicacy, and you can find them almost anywhere. However, I found the best ones at the little local enotecas (wine bars) that specialize in just wine, meat, and cheese. Who needs anything more? Pro Tip: if the platter is big enough, it can count as your dinner!

3. Lampredotto

This one’s a little more obscure, but definitely a favorite among the locals. Lampredotto is slow cooked, seasoned cow stomach served as a sandwich on a bread roll. (A little odd, I know) You’ll find this Florentine treat throughout the city center at food trucks or stands along the streets. This is definitely something every adventurous eater must check out!

4. Aperol Spritz

This classic Italian drink is a bright orange concoction on ice made of prosecco, Aperol, and soda water. You’ll see people drinking them everywhere you look, and you’ll definitely feel like a local when you’ve got a Spritz in your hand. Depending on the bartender, this drink can sometimes be super sweet or very bitter, so if you’re not into the first one you try, you might love the next one!

5. Paté

Although this spreadable meat paste is traditionally a French or Belgian delicacy, you’ll find paté served at almost every aperitivo buffet in Florence. It is certainly an acquired taste, but if it’s your thing, you’ll get so many chances to indulge your paté craving in this city. And if you’ve never tried this savory treat before, Florence is the place to do it!

6. Anything with Truffles

It’s difficult to find a menu in Florence that doesn’t feature truffles, and it’s no surprise why. Yes, truffles are fungi, but so what? Their unique flavors make everything more delicious, from pasta to steak. Foods in Florence heaped with truffle shavings are guaranteed to be unforgettable.
