So, you’re thinking of heading to Greece for a warm, relaxing summer holiday, but you don’t have tons of cash to spend when you get there. What do you do? Well, hopefully you’ve considered booking an all-inclusive deal to get the most for your money so far as food and drink goes, and perhaps you’ll be able to fly on days that aren’t as popular, such as during the middle of the week.

But you can make your money stretch even further by researching some activities to do that don’t cost very much to enjoy. If that’s something you’re interested in learning about, here are a handful of great things to do in beautiful Greece that cost nothing more than the cost of getting there!

1. Go Snorkeling in Crete

Scuba diving is brilliant fun but it can be an expensive activity to do on holiday – especially if you’re traveling in a group or as a family. So, why not try snorkeling instead? Crete is known for its rocky coastline and excellent beaches, and the waters surrounding the island are crystal clear, making it the ideal place to try diving down to see what you can find under the sea! Snorkel near Elounda to see the remains of Olous, an ancient city which now resides under shallow water. Keep your eyes peeled for sea life, wherever you go – you’re bound to see the occasional octopus!

2. Stroll along Red beach on Santorini.

You could spend hours wandering the whitewashed streets of Santorini, drinking in sight of the sun sparkling on a brilliant blue sea. (In fact, be sure to do this, as it’s free and one of the loveliest ways to explore the island!) But, be sure to spend some time at Red beach, too. Nestled away at the end of the road to Akrotiri, this stretch of shoreline consists of volcanic red-tinged sand and brick red cliffs. You’ll only be able to access it by driving there and doing a little bit of hiking on foot, but its remote location means the beach is far less crowded than somewhere like Kamari beach.

3. Climb Lycabettus Hill in Athens.

Lycabettus Hill is a lovely walk offering views over the beautiful, and rather upmarket, Kolonaki area of the city. Start among cafes and leafy streets before walking for 20 minutes, after which time you’ll reach a charming white chapel perched on top of the hill. Look over the railings for panoramic views of Athens and the sea in the distance, and pose for a selfie – it’s too picture perfect to miss!

4. Build sandcastles on Glyfada beach in Corfu.

If you fancy building sandcastles on the best beach in Corfu, this is where you need to go. Glyfada beach is a stretch of white, silky sand with mountains in the distance, located ten miles west of Corfu Town. It’s close to restaurants and bars, so there are plenty of amenities nearby if you fancy wandering off the beach for a bite to eat. Bring a towel if you don’t want to pay for a sunbed, and swim in the crystal-clear sea.

As you can see, there are lots of free things to do in Greece! If you’ve been here before, what else would you recommend trying?
