Chile’s rich and diverse culinary background exudes dynamism that few other countries can match. Travel anywhere along the country’s spindly landmass and you’re guaranteed to taste a bit of every international flavor you can think of, including Japanese, Thai, Peruvian, French, classic Chilean cuisine and much more. If you’re a foodie in search of delicious eats and a story to tell then look no further than Chile for authentic places to eat. Have yourself a foodie adventure!

So, in no particular order, here are my top five restaurants in Chile.

1. Restorán El Tercer Ojito

Patricio Lynch 1420, Iquique, Región de Tarapacá, Chile (map, website)

If you’re looking to explore with your taste buds an array of cultural and culinary delights, then make sure you stop by Restorán El Tercer Ojito for a truly international feast. Located in the northern city of Iquique, this restaurant serves traditional dishes from Japanese, Thai, and Peruvian cuisine. The candlelit outdoor patio offers a mellow and cool atmosphere, featuring various Buddha statues and lovely ferns, not to mention the food is served with superb presentation. Oh, and don’t forget to try the ceviche!

2. Chaski

Libertador O’Higgins 159, Vicuña, Región de Coquimbo, Chile (map, website)

Located in Vicuña inside the Elqui Valley, Chaski is a discreet and tiny little restaurant that is a must-eat destination! Known for its unique take on traditional regional cuisine, the restaurant serves local ingredients in fresh and innovative ways, including quinoa, herbs, amaranth and goat. With several organic wines, delicious pisco sour cocktails and their own local artisanal beer, Chaski is an absolute must for anyone visiting the city.

3. Hostalomera

Almirante Latorre 120, 57002 Castro, Chile (map)

Calling all foodies! If you’re looking for delicous eats, ample portions and prices you simply can’t beat anywhere, then is your Hostalomera spot! This hot lunch-spot destination is always guaranteed to be full, but it’s well worth the wait. The restaurant boasts an art-filled décor that’s just as appetizing as the three delectable home-cooked meals served each day, which includes an appetizer, beverage (try the juices, it’s a must) and fresh organic coffee (made from fig or barley, your choice) – and all this for under USD$3 (CH$2,000)!

4. La Marmita

Francisco Sampaio 678, Porvenir, Región de Magallanes y de la Antártica Chilena, Chile (map, website)

Serving hearty dishes of delicious bistro, casseroles, seafood, and much more, La Marmita is a wildly popular restaurant located in the port city of Punta Arenas in the heart of Chilean Patagonia. Locals and tourists can be seen mingling in this lovely restaurant at all times of the day and night, where the home-cooked style cuisine is always mouthwatering and the conversation is just as appetizing. You are sure to feel right at home at La Marmita, as if you were personally invited to someone’s home. Buen provecho!

5. Liguria

Avenida Pedro de Valdivia, Santiago, Providencia, Santiago Metropolitan, Chile (map, website)

Located in the capital city of Santiago, Liguria is legendary for its delectable Mediterranean flavors, original dishes and exquisite cuisine style. Waiters in dapper attire handwrite the menu each day on an outdoor chalkboard for every passerby to read with delight, prominently featuring stewed rabbit soup, silverside in tasty batter or some other original dish of the day. And don’t forget to stay late and make a night of it because the restaurant’s very own Bar: Liguria is known as a wildly popular drinking destination for locals and tourists alike.
