CEO Of e-Bann Bikes Makes Urban Travel Our New Buzzword

Always searching for the latest green technologies, we recently stumbled upon a stylish eco-friendly travel business. e-Bann is a Hong Kong based electric bicycle company that aims to draw travelers away from carbon-emitting cars, towards fun, experiential urban bicycling. In recognition of their efforts to decrease carbon emissions and promote green travel, e-Bann has been awarded the Green Business Seal, a feat not many companies can boast. They additionally won “Best Company for Sustainability – Regional” this year at IAIR Hong Kong 2013.

While most of us are aware of the negative effects gas-guzzling cars have on our environment, many refuse biking as an alternative due to lengthy commutes or exhausting trips. Fortunately, e-Bann’s electric motors squash both those issues. Traveling on a bike is one of the best ways to visit a new city, and with bike lanes popping up in cities all over the world, there is no better time to hop on and do something great for the environment.

We got the opportunity to talk to Arda Onal, CoFounder and CEO of e-Bann Bikes about the birth of the idea and where the future lies for e-Bann.

So what inspired you to get into electric bicycles?

The idea of the electric bicycle as a product came from my personal travels throughout Asia. Up until now I’ve lived in many countries where I usually had a car, and honestly, while a car can make you feel like you’re a local, but it’s nothing compared to a bicycle.

What makes e-bikes a better alternative to driving a car?

It encourages urban travel. Most of our clients are living in cities, whereas they don’t get to see much of it during their daily commute to work in a car. An e-bike gives you the freedom to wander around the city without breaking a sweat.

So what’s next for e-Bann Bikes?

We are defining the notion of “Urban Local Tourist”. We want people to ask themselves, “Do you make the most of your city?” Additionally, we are thrilled to be partnering with tourism companies throughout Europe who rent our e-bikes to tourists and e-bike tour organizers around various cities. They certainly beat a tour bus!
