PMQ stands for Police Married Quarters, a residential complex completed in 1951 to house married police officers. Before that, the site was home to the former Central School, established in 1889 and recognized as Hong Kong’s first government school to provide Western-style education. Today, remnants of the original school are preserved on-site, adding another layer of historical significance.

In 2014, the building reopened as a creative landmark dedicated to supporting Hong Kong’s design, art, and entrepreneurial communities.
