Owning The Airway: A Ladies’ Guide To Airport Fashion

My airport style is a bit more strategic because it came to my attention that other people could see me.

I don’t want to say that I used to be a slob, but I also don’t want to lie. Once upon a time, my favorite outfit for flying was a gloriously oversized hand-me-down sweat suit. Yikes. Now my airport style is a bit more strategic because it came to my attention that other people could see me. Here is what I have learned over the course of my transformation.

Socks matter. I once made the mistake of heading to the airport in old, worn-out socks. As I took off my shoes for airport security, everyone could see the ratty strips of cloth I wore as socks. There is something about having wide, gaping holes in one’s socks that renders an entire look unattractive. Don’t be that girl. Furthermore, it is important to wear warm socks. Flight cabins are notorious for being cold, so plan accordingly.

That said, be economic with warm articles of clothing. In a feeble attempt to save money on baggage I once wore three jackets, two gloves, two scarves, and a hat. It was a nightmare; I don’t recommend it. Flying is already stressful, and attempting to keep track of your entire winter wardrobe on-board is just an unnecessary evil. Opt for a light, hooded jacket paired with a heavier coat. That way you can adjust the layers accordingly without drowning in fabric.

Lastly, the key to looking good while traveling is water. Purchasing water at the airport will cost you your first-born, so travel with an empty water bottle and fill it up inside the terminal. Also, carry a small container of moisturizer. Looking dehydrated can detract attention from even the most perfect outfit. So drink up, and travel safe!
