I knew it was everything I dreamed it would be and more.

From the moment I landed on the island of Santorini, I knew it was everything I dreamed it would be and more. The locals were incredibly warm and friendly, and I immediately felt completely welcome in this brand new place. While staying in a room I found through Airbnb in a small hotel on the black sand beach of Kamari, everyone I met was so eager to help and give me tips on things to do on the island. The vibes were relaxed and joyful everywhere I went. After just a few hours here, I knew I’d never be ready to leave this place.

The Mediterranean cuisine was beyond delicious: kebab, pita, tzatziki, gyro, olive oil…YUM! I’ll never forget drinking a tasty fresh mango daiquiri while lounging on the black sand beach, or enjoying the best gyro I’ve ever had while taking in the views on the red sand beach. The food on Santorini is fantastically fresh and full of flavor.

When deciding where to stay on Santorini, you’ll likely be choosing between the black sand beaches of Perissa and Kamari, the city of Fira in the middle of the island, or the iconic village of Oia at the tip of the island. The black sand beach towns are relaxed and less hilly then other parts of the island, and you’ll find great restaurants and bars right on the sand. Fira has the classic whitewashed buildings and winding hillside paths, along with a great deal of shops and restaurants. Oia is where you’ll find the quintessential Santorini views you’ve probably seen in most pictures of the island, as well as amazing restaurants. Visiting Oia at sunset is an absolute must-do, because the awe-inspiring pink and purple sky is guaranteed to blow you away.

While Santorini is a great place to relax and enjoy the views, it also offers opportunities for adventure. Perhaps the best way to see the island is by renting an ATV and heading out to explore. You can ride out of the crowded towns and see all of the open, undeveloped areas, all while enjoying panoramic ocean views everywhere you look. The island is very ATV-friendly, and feeling the sea breeze as you zip around the island is an unforgettable way to experience the island.

Santorini will always be one of my favorite places in the world. Everywhere I looked, I couldn’t help snapping a picture because I never wanted to forget how amazing this place is! And while the photos are stunning, this island was even more incredible in real life. Santorini is a truly heavenly place.
