The best footwear choices for long walks along 5th avenue.

The glamour of the city that never sleeps seems to scream that footwear must be of the likes of Louboutins, Choos, or Manolos (a big thank you to the fashion industry). However, I would trust the judgment of every student, businessman, or struggling artist before stepping out on to the streets in 5-inch stilettos or brand new leather loafers. The island of Manhattan appears large with the immense density of its inhabitants and infrastructure.
Once in the city, however, you’ll find that since everything is on top of one another, getting places that seem far away take less than 15 minutes, even on foot. With the island only reaching an area of 34 square miles, weekenders and city dwellers alike tend to wander for miles taking in the vibrant, buzzing NYC atmosphere. The most important choice to make in your travels to the Big Apple: shoes. After my first week in sweltering New York City this summer, I realized my leather sandals and summer wedges were no proper way to arrive at my destination…my multitude of blisters were proof of this. I’ve narrowed down my four the best footwear choices for long walks along 5th avenue.

1. Super Sneakers
Available in all the colors of the rainbow and then some. High top or low skimmer styles. With rubber soles. Nestled in socks, with your toes covered from all possible stubbing, these shoes let you swerve in and around taxis, or run quickly enough to just make that uptown subway.
2. An All-Terrain Boot
Fall and winter bring new players to the footwear decision field. Think heavy on the pre-treated leather, and light on the suede. Keeping your feet toasty, but not sweaty is key. Boots are a go-to with the rain, snow, and frigid temperatures.
3. The Flip Flop
Again available in all colors. With no ankle straps and therefore no feasible way for blisters. The ease of a quick on and off. This choice is an essential addition to any handbag or backpack or briefcase: the quick change from office to pavement.

From the fold up city flat, to the Tory Burch staple, or even brogues for the guys there are styles for everyone. No heel height and a no-slip sole equals comfy and still effortlessly chic. Careful with these though, that back of the heel is prime blister realty so carry a few Band-Aids while you work them in.
