Explore bars in Seoul beyond bottles of soju!
Going out in Seoul sounds like fun? Cuz it TOTALLY is. For bars centralized in one area, head to Itaewon, where expats and travelers hustle in and out of electrifying bars and clubs. Gangnam also has some cool spots where you’ll discover hidden lounges serving up the city’s most expensive cocktails. Depending on your internal mood board, here are some of our personal faves:

Le Chamber– expensive speakeasy
Neighborhood: Gangnam

Here’s a speakeasy in an expensive area, so naturally the cocktails ain’t cheap. The USD $8 cover charge (10,000 Won), however, might still leave some guests shocked. The drink menu stays true to local and seasonal ingredients, including: ginseng, soju…etc. The entrance sticks to a high-end speakeasy format with a hidden door disguised as a bookshelf which leads to a low lit space embellished with massive chandeliers. Expect to spend USD $40 even if you’re ordering one lonesome but fantastically tasty drink. The vibe is undeniably sophisticated, the space is frequented by expats and foreigners. Le Chamber is one of the most posh bars in Seoul, and is most likely the city’s finest cocktail lounge that comes with an astonishing price.
Monkey Shoulder – cognac & cocktails
Neighborhood: Yongsan

Opened in 2014, Monkey Shoulder was meant to attract cognac aficionados. Hence, this Single Malt Whiskey Bar is named after a Scotch that’s fairly hard to find in the city. Elegant wood panels stretch along a radiant black bar, where guests should befriend its bartenders for a drink during an earlier night in the week. TBN, this is the best way to get to know a city. This bar in Seoul is the perfect recipe for indulging in a luscious cocktail called the “house shot.” If you love banana cream and whiskey, this is your jam. Make sure you taste Monkey Shoulder’s special bar snack: homemade chocolate.
Contra & Cakeshop – fun nightclubs
Neighborhood: Itaewon

Sister clubs, Contra & Cakeshop are conveniently situated right next door to each other with huge names performing in both venues, including: Ugly Duck, Spray, Dorian Concept, Lefto and Fatima…and more. Both locations come with bars exuding intimate vibes, particularly with Contra’s lounge bar and rooftop gardens often inviting Seoul’s most sophisticated crowds.
Octagon Club – dance club
Neighborhood: Gangnam

Hailed as one of the best and the most famous night clubs in South Korea, Octagon is a celebrity favorite. With 60 VIP tables and 10 VIP rooms, Octagon frequently features renowned DJs hypnotizing crowds of 3,000+ amped up night owls. Octagon has the country’s best built-in sound system with colossal LED screens that flash along beats of EDM or hip hop, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Interior design carries the Octagon theme with 45, 90, 135-degree shapes. Oh, did we mention an indoor pool? Yeah, you get the drift.
The Bungalow – tropical lounge
Neighborhood: Itaewon

Since Itaewon is the place to be for bars and a fun night out, The Bungalow is one of those bars in Seoul made to kick off your evening with tropical drinks and a cool crowd. Sand plastered on the ground and multiples floors of rooms in themes, The Bungalow transports guests from Seoul city vibes to Hawaiian beaches. Large projector screens on the wall display hip graphics and scenes from music festivals around the world. We wouldn’t recommend dining here, but definitely start your night at The Bungalow.
