Calabria is one of Italy’s best kept secrets!
Located at the tip of the boot in Italy, Calabria is known for its stunning beaches, warm climate and high quality cuisine. As one of the least tourist-dense regions of Italy, Calabria will offer you a unique and immersive experience into the local culture.
HOW TO GET THERE
There are three airports within the region of Calabria but for the best deals and prime location, Lamezia Terme is your best bet. This airport offers arrivals and departures from both domestic and international locations. In addition, Lamezia Terme offers transfers by taxi, bus and train to wherever in Calabria you choose to stay. If you’d like to explore the region on your own timing, there are also car companies available for rentals.

STAY
The time of year and where you choose to explore go hand in hand when booking a trip to Calabria. If you prefer to ski in the mountains, November to March is the best time to go. Meanwhile, April to October is an optimal time to get some color on one of Calabria’s breathtaking beaches. For your skiing needs, the province of Cosenza has some of the best ski lodges in the region with Lorica being the highest rated.

SEE
With approximately 500 miles of coastline, there are some truly incredible beaches to visit here. Take a trip to Tropea, one of the most photographed places in Calabria or Scilla, home to Scylla, a greek mythological sea monster. Anywhere in or near Reggio Calabria is also great as it is the largest city in the region.

EAT
Calabrian cuisine is unique to the region. Of course, being almost entirely surrounded by water, the fish is incredibly fresh and delicious. In addition, Calabria is known for its pepperoncini or spicy hot chili peppers. The ingredient is used in a number of dishes to add a kick. Nduja is another spicy salami that is spreadable on crackers or a delicious pizza topping.
