Escape the winter in Costa Rica.

There is nothing like cozying up to the fire in the winter. There is also nothing quite like being able to feel your face. This winter, avoid the frost in the tropics. Here are the best places to visit along the sunny Costa Rican Pacific Coast.
Playa Flamingo

Walk on pudding. The first 50 feet into the ocean feel like a typical sandy beach, then everything turns to mush. Under the water is an ultrafine mudflat that creates the sensation of walking on Jell-O. Which is cool, if you’re in to that kind of thing. Aside from the mudflat, Playa Flamingo offers picturesque sunsets, a forest backdrop, and warm, gentle waves.
Palo Verde National Park

Iguanas, scorpions, coatis, oh my! (Yes, you just read the eight trillionth reference to that line from the Wizard of Oz). Palo Verde National Park is one of the few remaining reserves of dry forest in Latin America. This dry forest is home to many exotic plants and animal like coatis and caimans. The park also encompasses a large marsh and several lookout trails that capture the landscape from overhead. The only caveat is that you will need bug spray, and lot of it. Check out more info here!
Mangrove Forest
The mangrove forest is a collection of organisms adapted to live in a high salinity environment. This destination is for true adventurists. The massive trees create the surreal impression of a mythical land, and the large aboveground roots create a jungle gym. In this forest, you’ll navigate over, under, and around giant roots in a mud-filled arena. Watch out for the miniature crabs!
