Here are some frequently asked questions to help you decide if Terrace House is right for you.
The Japanese-language TV series, Terrace House, has quickly become a cult hit in States. With new episodes available to watching on Netflix, it’s time to figure out whether the show is worth your time. Here are some frequently asked questions to help you decide if this fascinating show is right for you.
What Is This Show All About?
The show documents the lives of six strangers — three women and three men — who live together in a house, sound familiar yet? They work their normal day jobs, all the while pursuing their dreams, forming friendships, and sometimes forming more than friendships.
Each season takes place in a different location, with past locations including Tokyo, Hawaii, and the current Japanese town of Karuizawa.
What’s Different About This Reality TV Saga?
There are a few things that set Terrace House apart from the typical reality television experience. First off, there is a lot less high key, petty drama. The people are a lot nicer than on a lot of reality TV shows. The drama that does arise stems mainly from the realistic and natural friction and misunderstandings that happen when multiple people are in close quarters. Also, when there are higher key dramas, matters are usually easily resolved with a mature conversation. Another big difference is that people on the show can decide to leave when they feel their purpose on the show has come to an end.
Is It Actually Exciting?
It takes a bit to get into it but once you do, there’s no going back. The whole show centers around human behavior and how we relate to one another so the smaller moments are what really make the show. It can almost feel as though you are watching a documentary. You’ll grow attached to the people and their lives, and not just romantically. Also, if you’re into lifestyle shows, Terrace House is one of the best. You’ll find gorgeous houses in even more beautiful places. Not to mention the people are basically models. It is a glimpse into how young 20-somethings live, eat and dress.
Which Season Should I Start With?
There are a few different seasons on Netflix right now, including Boys & Girls In The City, Opening New Doors, and Aloha State. It’s recommended you start with Boys & Girls In The City. It takes place in Tokyo, and has some of the best characters. It really shows what the idea of Terrace House is, so it’s a great place to start.
When Can I Watch The Latest Episodes?
As of May 22, you can watch Opening New Doors: Part 2 on Netflix. These episodes pick up right where Part 1 ended, so hopefully some loose threads will be mended.
