Not only does Mexico have intoxicating culture and beverages, but it also has hidden beauty secrets. Like, have you ever seen a Mexican soap opera? Those actors have flawless skin! Now, one could argue that only God and Botox are on their side, however; it could also be those bi-weekly facials at the most expensive spas in town. But if you’re not bathing in enough money right now to do that – don’t worry, here are three Mexican face masks you should probably try. You can thank me later.

1. Cactus

I know, the first beauty secret probably sounds crazy to use a plant with thorns on your face. But this prickly pear was used by the Aztecs because it contains soothing and moisturizing properties. And just like your diet, it’s full of vitamins and antioxidants. The vitamin E and K will brighten up your skin. Here’s what you do:

  1. Cut the large cactus leaf in half and scrape the cactus flesh into a bowl.
  2. Mix 1 teaspoon of honey into the bowl.
  3. Use your fingers to apply to clean skin.
  4. Let it dry for about 20 minutes, wash off and apply moisturizer.

To prevent the breakdown of both collagen and elastin leaving the skin free from concerns that come with your age, dermal repair complex ingredients can help restore your skin look more youthful.

2. Tepezcohuite

Tepezohuite is a bark tree with therapeutic properties that you can find in Mexico. It is most known for regenerating the skin. The Mayans used it, and they really knew their stuff. They “upgraded” to a new calendaring system and cutting edge technology that was available for their time, so they, get us. Here’s what you do:

  1. Mix equal amounts of Tepezcohuite powder and clay (you can purchase clay at your local health food store) and add water until it forms a paste.
  2. You can also add a few drops of your favorite oil or vitamin E.
  3. Apply evenly on clean face and leave on for 15 minutes.
  4. Rinse with water and apply moisturizer.

3. Tequila

Yum. Tequila is the real deal and it will make you look like the ageless goddess your parents are always telling you that you are. The alcohol content in tequila explains its astringent properties. It helps remove excess dirt and oil from the skin, much like the astringents you can buy at the drug store. So this weekend, instead of taking tequila shots and sending that Snapchat to your ex at 2am (nobody’s perfect), make this Tequila Rose Scrub:

  1. Mix ¼ cup raw sugar, ¼ cup sea salt, 1 ounce sweet-almond oil, ½ ounce coconut oil, ½ ounce white tequila and 5 drops rose absolute essential oil.
  2. Apply to your face (and body) in the shower.
  3. Store the rest in the refrigerator.
