In Seminyak, Bali’s most stylish and happening district, vacationers have no shortage of big, flashy hotels and resorts to choose from. But if you’re looking to lay back at a smaller hotel, The Colony is most definitely the hotel for you.

The Colony is a small, intimate boutique hotel located among all the most popular clubs and bars of Seminyak. The hotel is stationed a bit inward off the main road, so it feels private and sheltered from the usual commotion in the area. The Colony is also adults only, with no children under age 16 allowed to stay there. Therefore, guests know that what they’re getting is a fabulous, peaceful stay at a classy hotel. It’s very trendy, as I’d seen it pop up on my Instagram feed on more than one occasion and I was ready to see what all the hype was about!

As the name suggests, the style of The Colony is colonial chic. This small boutique hotel is beautifully designed around a welcoming pool lined with palm trees and white low-rise buildings on either side. Simply walking into the clean, elegant reception building feels like one has escaped the tropical heat into a cool, comfortable retreat. Guests will find that lounging by the stylish pool is just as, if not more relaxing than going to the beach. With only 20 rooms in the entire complex, guests can count on having a restful, sophisticated stay.

The rooms are bright, simple, and elegant. The amenities are straightforward without fuss over extravagant offerings, but the hotel still provides everything you need to be comfortable and can arrange for extra requests. There are 5 types of rooms ranging from Superior and Deluxe to Junior and Grand Suites. The crème de la crème is the Grand Suite, which has a balcony, dining room, living room, and main street access. It provides even more privacy as it’s slightly separated from the other rooms. Some guests who are lucky enough to be on the second floor will benefit from a private balcony overlooking the pool, but even the rooms downstairs have double doors opening into the courtyard, making each unit feel like a luxurious private home.

The Colony is only a 10 minute walk away from the beach and within walking distance of all the hottest venues in Seminyak. The world-famous Potatohead Beach Club is simply down the street, and The Legian Hotel is a next door neighbor. Popular bars such as Motel Mexicola are just around the corner. Guests can stroll down any of the main streets for lots of shopping, and the lovely Seminyak Flea Market is a 15 minute walk away.

Urchin is the hotel’s in-house restaurant, located in front of the hotel facing the street. The cuisine is modern Mediterranean with a special focus on seafood. Guests can go in for lunch, dinner, tapas and drinks, with happy hours featuring daily drink specials. The outdoor terrace is lovely for taking a break after the beach or in between shopping. The hotel also has the Pool Restaurant where breakfast is served along with tasteful lunch entrees and snacks.
