Inside Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa In Rancho Mirage

A prime lifestyle destination for those looking to escape in Palm Springs.

Why We Love This: Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa is a prime lifestyle destination for those looking to escape into the pristine desert of Rancho Mirage. We know many resorts can seem tacky, especially those that are located way out in the desert. Fortunately, Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa isn’t anything like the type of flashy and commercial casino hotels you find on the Las Vegas Strip, or anywhere really. It’s a truly relaxing and modern resort that offers travelers exceptional accommodations in a stunning natural setting.

The Story:

Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa is run by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians who have continuously inhabited the Palm Springs area and are prominent members of the desert community. Agua Caliente first started as a casino then debuted a striking 16-story hotel tower in 2008. The property expanded into a grand resort with a spa, concert venue and multiple dining options ever since. The tower has 340 guest rooms that overlook the serene desert which stretches as far as the eye can see.

In 2009 Agua Caliente also opened The Show, an enormous state-of-the-art performance venue that holds over 2,000 attendees. Thanks to the impressive concert hall, Agua Caliente has welcomed every type of prominent musician and entertainer imaginable. Renowned performers such as Tony Bennett, Janelle Monae, Margaret Cho, Don Henley and Sting have graced the halls of The Show. And it has many more amazing acts to come on the roster this year as the venue celebrates its 10 year anniversary.

Agua Caliente recently became the first property in Coachella Valley to implement ORCA technology to turn food waste into water. The resort will divert up to 624 tons of food waste from local landfills per year by converting it into environmentally safe water that flows back into public sewer systems. The resort is heavily committed to protecting the regional environment of Palm Springs. Before adopting ORCA technology, the resort had already switched 90% of interior lighting as well as 75% of landscape lighting to LED lighting. The resort also has a robust recycling program in place and continues to look for ways to reduce its environmental impact in Southern California.

The Experience:

Everything about Agua Caliente is understated and relaxed. It’s designed for guests to enjoy a nice, laidback time rather than go wild at a casino or nightclub. It’s kind of like being at a Vegas resort without having to confront the frantic craziness of Vegas. The property has everything you need including: a spa, swimming pool, concert venue and multiple restaurants. Every outlet is polished yet casual and nothing about it is in-your-face or showy. The vibes are very low-key and relaxed. It’s clear that most guests are there to catch a fun, calming break from their day-to-day lives.

The rooms are cool and contemporary. If you’re lucky to get a desert view on a high floor, it’ll make your stay that much more amazing. There’s nothing like waking up to a wide panorama of the desert at sunrise then being able to enjoy a stunning desert sunset from the comfort of your own room. Each room has an over-sized sunken tub and an extra TV in the bathroom which are obviously fantastic perks to have in your room during any getaway.

Agua Caliente is situated close to popular tourist sites like Palm Springs, Joshua Tree, Pioneertown and Indio. But the resort is still located apart, a few freeway exits down from the main cities, to ensure the utmost peace and quiet. Thus it’s possible to reach all of the tourist attractions around Palm Springs and beyond via a quick car ride down the I-10, but still relish in the calm, tranquil desert while at the hotel.

Amenities & Outlets:

Sunstone Spa: The Sunstone Spa at Agua Caliente is definitely one of the hotel’s standout amenities. All guests should stop by the Forbes-rated four-star spa at some point during their stay. The spa features beautifully built soaking baths, steam rooms, saunas, lounges, as well as a private outdoor pool for spa guests only with cabanas and food service. Choose from a long, wide-ranging menu of massages, skincare, waxing, and couple treatments to start your ultimate vacation the right way.

Pool: The swimming pool is a fun, lively oasis where you can cool off and simply lounge. With a wet bar, towel service and throwback music, the pool is perfect for soaking up and hanging out in the sun. There are cabanas available for rent if you’re interested in having a private space to yourself and your group. Plus there’s even a Jacuzzi for when you want to stay extra warm during those balmy desert nights.

Steakhouse: The Steakhouse is the main fine dining venue at the resort. Once inside, you immediately feel whisked away to the classic chophouses from back in the day. The interior is dark and lavish with red leather booths and dim chandeliers. You can have your pick of all the steakhouse classics, from Lobster Bisque, Shrimp Cocktail, Porterhouse Steak, scallops, and a delicious Surf & Turf. Definitely don’t skip out on the decadent temptations on the dessert cart, such as the Amaretto Crème Brulee.

Waters Café: Waters Café is the go-to casual dining option anytime during the day. With a full bar as well as daily happy hours, it’s there for you whether you want breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner and more late-night snacks. There’s also the Poker Deli within the casino for when you get hungry while you gamble but you don’t want to leave the casino floor.

The Show: Since The Show is located right downstairs in the casino, it’s convenient for hotel guests already staying at the resort to check out the box office to go to a show. The elegant concert hall is modern and spacious with not a bad seat in the house out of its 2,100 spots. This upcoming fall is jam-packed with big name acts gracing the stage including Sting, Shaggy, Don Henley, Toby Keith, Luis Miguel, Styx, Mel Brooks and more.
