Kiev is one of the largest and most popular cities of Eastern Europe, and for good reason.
Founded in 6th century C.E., Kiev is an old and ancient city that features ancient and soviet era architecture, sacred Christian sites, and modern hipster hot spots for an unforgettable experience. Travelers are guaranteed to find something for them in this unique city, and it’s quite common to hear a multitude of languages spoken here given its metropolitan appeal, including English, German and Japanese.
These days, Kiev remains a popular destination for many travelers with its appealing charm and affordable price points; you can buy a glass of craft beer or sip a perfectly brewed cup of coffee for just $2, or have an amazingly delectable dinner for a mere $5! Kiev is definitely a can’t-miss destination.
Here are my top spots in Kiev for a delicious drink or that early morning cup of joe!
1. DRUZI Café
If you are looking for a place with a great terrace, then look no further than DRUZI Café! You’ll enjoy so many diverse styles of cuisine here, including Ukrainian, European and even Mexican! Opens at 8 a.m. every day of the week, DRUZI Café serves a delicious light and fresh breakfast, which is a great way to start your day in Kiev!
2. Kneipen-Club Kupidon
This famous café first opened in 1995 and is the go-to spot to mingle with Ukrainian intellectuals and aspiring writers. At Kneipen-Club Kupidon you’ll have a chance to enjoy a drink and brush shoulders with many of Ukraine’s top writers, poets, philosophers, artists and more. If you travel to the city in winter, the cozy atmosphere of the café makes it your ideal spot to hang out, especially given its convenient location near Kiev’s main street Khreschatyk.
3. Come and Stay
Come and Stay is the new must-visit spot in Kiev. Founded by two baristas with the ambitious desire to create THE ideal café, Come and Stay features a bright and fresh décor that is a true pleasure to experience. Come and Stay is located in the central part of Kiev, close to Ploscha Lva Tolstoho subway station. Don’t forget to indulge in the incredible variety of coffee the café features from all around the world, and don’t hesitate to bring coffee from your country, too!
Spotykach is an impressive restaurant with an electric atmospheric located right in the heart of the historic sector of Kiev – a mere 30 meters or less than 100 feet from St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery. Spotykach will take you back in time to 1960s Soviet era, featuring a quiet and cool atmosphere as cool as any Mad Men episode. For tasty Ukrainian cuisine, this restaurant is a must for any foodie!
5. Beach Under the Pavement
Yaroslaviv Val St, 33, Kiev, Ukraine (map)
Despite its location in the city, Beach Under the Pavement offers a unique taste of beach bar life that worthy of a stop. Some patrons like to think of this place as an artist’s bar, since many concerts and live performances are played here. But this bar is famous for its unique menu policy, where every two weeks the entire menu changes and features a completely new lineup of original cuisine options. Not to mention, all cocktails are made using only natural ingredients and are incredibly delicious to say the least!
