BY HENRY WARD, from Henry Ward Design
As a designer in the marine, automotive, architectural and product industries, Henry Ward has an eye for beautiful things and places.
Shortlisted for the International Yacht and Aviation Design Awards 2014, Ward made his mark by his “Sea Suites” – mini-island concept – which was an innovative egg-like villas used for houseboats, floating lodges and beach houses.
The young designer is also an avid traveler. Whether it’s for personal pleasure or for attending grandiose events, he now shares his favorite escapes around the world. We’re pretty sure some of these getaways will make it on your bucket list in this new year!
I have been fascinated with Monaco ever since watching the Grand Prix as a kid and recreating the track with my Scalextric. The luxury cars, yachts, people and buildings are all impressive and I eagerly await my annual trips there. In 2015 I made it the location I proposed to my girlfriend (now fiancé!) while staying at the elegant Hotel Hermitage.
Cornwall’s capital and only city, Truro is a twenty minute drive from the seaside town of Falmouth where Henry Ward Design is based. After moving to and falling in love with Cornwall in 2011, I’d highly recommend a visit to this English county to explore the breathtakingly beautiful scenery and best beaches in the UK.
For those looking for some serious fun, I would highly recommend Orlando, Florida! Renowned for being home to over a dozen theme parks, including those belonging to Disney and Universal Studios, there is an attraction for everyone.
We passed though the seafront city of Pula while exploring Croatia’s extraordinary coastline and then returned for a day trip to take in the wealth of Roman architecture. The well-preserved amphitheatre located in the heart of the city is a must-see.
Starting my career in automotive design I loved to visit Geneva for the annual International Motor Show. Surrounded by the Alps and Jura mountains, the city has stunning views over Lake Geneva and up to Mont Blanc. We usually move to higher ground and go snowboarding after our city break.
