Gritty Gritty Bang Bang, Sir Andy Flurry, Ready Spready Go, Ice Destroyer, and Gritallica.
Here’s something to talk about with locals during your next trip Scotland: gritters!
With the real-time Scottish government’s online map, you can track the location of moving gritters across the country. But what’s even more eye-catching, or entertaining, are the funky gritter names. Gritty Gritty Bang Bang, Sir Andy Flurry, Sir Salter Scott, Ready Spready Go, Ice Destroyer, Gritallica…just to name a few.
Who are the creatives behind these fun names? According to BBC, they’re primary school children from 2006 who submitted ideas in a competition. The best ones were chosen in the end. Twelve years ago, however, most gritters were around Edinburgh and Glasgow. Now they’re traversing throughout the country.
Which one’s your favorite? From the looks of Twitter, seems like “Gritty Gritty Bang Bang” takes the cake!
