From partying it up in Gangnam (before it was popularized by the song) to the hardships of war in Iraq, @diningtraveler has always been open to explore how others live, gaining an ever-growing appreciation for culture.

Born in New York and raised in Puerto Rico, Jessica van Dop DeJesus, or @diningtraveler, had a taste of many cultures from an early age. Jessica caught the travel bug as a young Marin Corps officer on an assignment in Okinawa, Japan, and since then, has lived in the U.S., Puerto Rico (some debate it’s the U.S. but according to her, is is whole different world), Japan, South Korea, Belgium, and Germany. She’s also been to Iraq, Australia, Thailand, and Senegal. From partying it up in Gangnam (before it was popularized by the song) to the hardships of war in Iraq, Jessica has always been open to explore how others live, gaining an ever-growing appreciation for culture.
The beauty of the world, even in the most tumultuous places, amazes her. Currently, Jessica lives in Washington DC, a city she loves dearly. One of her favorite places there is the Sculpture Garden, a peaceful oasis amidst the madness of the National Mall.

Her favorite destination? Puerto Rico. Though she grew up there, Jessica loves playing tourist, finding something new to love with each visit. She also loves Brussels, Belgium. Having lived there for six years, the food, expat scene, and architecture solidified her love for the city. Thailand is another favorite, as it opened her mind—and palate—to a whole new world of flavors.
And flavor is one thing you’ll see on her Instagram. A quick scroll through will reveal mouthwatering and gorgeous plates, and you’ll find shots of a local brunch to ramen to ceviche from Mexico. What she offers is not only artistic photos to “like,” but also inspiration for fans to try the foods pictured and travel to the destinations they come from.
