Don’t get grumpy while trying to post on social media.
While Iran is becoming a rising tourist destination, connecting to Wi-Fi might be a challenge all on its own.
Although many hotels offer free Wi-Fi, the connection might be slow and remember social media platforms such as: Facebook, Twitter & Instagram might be blocked even in major cities. So here are ways you can stay connected and not be grumpy while trying to post your latest Persian Empire captures.
Places with free Wi-Fi:
You’ll most likely land in Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA), where they offer free Wi-Fi service. More and more hotels also offer free Wi-Fi, some may need passwords so ask the concierge. There are plenty of internet cafes in cities, they’re usually called: coffeenets, for USD $2/hour.
Pre-paid SIM cards:
Hotel Wi-Fi may drop out easily, so you could invest in a prepaid SIM card which you can activate for unlimited (or limited) internet packages according to how many days you’ll be staying in Iran. You can purchase SIM cards at the airport or local shops (ask your guide or hotel.) Word on the street that the best ones are: Irancell and Hamrahe Aval.
If you’ll be traveling through different cities, this may be a great option so you can access internet during long car rides.
Best VPN to download:
Similar to traveling to China where social media is blocked, you also need to download VPN apps on your phone or laptop in order to share your best pics on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Here are some recommended apps, according to BestVPN.com:
Good luck staying connected!
