Why Bergün Won’t Let You Post Its Picturesque Town On Social Media

The city doesn’t want you to suffer from FOMO.

“Photographs of our picturesque landscape, shared on social media, can make others unhappy because they themselves cannot be here.”

Says a now famous sign in Bergün, Switzerland – a little town in the district of Albula and in the canton of Graubünden. An area known for its agriculture, the gorgeous landscape is comprised of seemingly fictional Alpines, farm houses and ancient architectures. The town is so picturesque that it has banned photography and posting on social media in fear of making people unhappy because they’re not there!

Signs all over the town also indicate the message of FOMO. Of course, if it’s a promotion to further captivate our curiosity toward Bergün, it’s working. Despite warning signs, #bergun is trending on Instagram, capturing similar vibes from The Sound of Music.

For travelers itching to snap a pic or two, Bergün mayor has issued a “friendly special permit” that grants photography within city limits. Testing the rebel in all of us, if someone tells us no, we’re sure gonna head that way! Check out some beautiful posts with the hopping hashtag.
