Spain’s capital is gay-friendly & the most happening spot to celebrate being LGBT+.
There are few places in the world that hold bigger LGBT Pride Celebrations than Madrid. Spain’s capital is an extremely gay-friendly city, and without a doubt one of the best, most happening locales to celebrate being LGBT+ each summer.
The city of Madrid comes alive with color at the end of June, as almost every shop and apartment terrace puts up bright rainbow flags to show solidarity and celebrate with the LGBT community. It’s absolutely electrifying and heartwarming—personally as a queer person—to feel the love and excitement for LGBT individuals coming from an entire city for one exciting weekend of celebration, solidarity and love.
Madrid Orgullo—which means Pride in Spanish—lasts for 5 fabulous days full of marches, parades, performances and of course, lots of partying in the streets. This year was especially wild as people from Madrid and all over the world crowded to Chueca, Madrid’s gay district, and filled up all major plazas with plenty of festivities and LGBT pride.
Madrid will be hosting WorldPride Madrid 2017 next year, which will mark 40 years since the first LGBT Pride demonstration in Spain in 1977. WorldPride Madrid 2017 will be a celebration of the LGBT community on an international level to which everyone is invited to see one of the biggest and most glorious Pride celebrations in the world.
