Joe Manganiello Describes Iceland As “The Most Incredible Adventure”

Iceland has been on many travelers’ bucket list for a long time, and Joe Manganiello got the chance to cross it off his list during a trip led by Eddie Bauer athlete KC Deane.

The 40-year-old actor told PEOPLE,

“I love the outdoors and there are very few places left in the world as unspoiled as Iceland. I wanted to have an adventure. I’ve never seen anything like this country. These are things that you read in books as a child — you don’t think they exist anywhere other than your mind.”

Throughout an entire week, Manganiello had lunch inside an ice cave where he tasted the best fish he’d ever had, visited black sand beach where he spotted a Banksy under a bridge. During a five-mile kayak across a glacier lagoon filled with icebergs, the Magic Mike actor snapped pics with local seals.

The adventure didn’t stop there. On the fourth day of his expedition, Manganiello climbed a mountain which he described as “a pretty serious incline.” But he got through the physical challenge by listening to GusGus, Björk and Pantera.

Iceland is a Nordic island country located in the North Atlantic Ocean. With a population of 332,529 residing in a land of 40,000 square miles, the Scandinavian island is the most sparsely populated country in Europe. Additionally, Iceland is volcanically and geologically active with many glacial rivers flowing to the sea through lowlands.
