Why we love this: When I say love, I mean I absolutely LOVED staying at Lloyd’s Inn while traveling in Singapore. This hotel’s got everything: great design, great location and great concept. In a city that’s known for dizzying ultra-modern extravagance, Lloyd’s Inn offers something totally different from the typical skyscraper hotel with an infinity pool (not to mention casual and delicious shop house restaurants just two minutes away on Killiney Road!)

The Concept:
The primary purpose of Lloyd’s Inn is to provide travelers with the most serene city break while remaining close to its main attractions. In order to create a total oasis, the hotel purposefully incorporates lush, verdant nature surrounding its landscape.
It’s impossible not to fall in love with the effortlessly minimalist and organic design. Everything about the hotel is sleek and modern yet firmly rooted in nature. The interior consists of the lobby and guest rooms formatted in all white with soft lighting to create bright and contemporary resting spaces. The exterior architecture takes guests through fresh, dewy flora by way of passages and glass windows, so that the presence of nature is always felt. Each room is also equipped with an outdoor shower or bathtub among the plants similar to Balinese style. The result is a balanced haven in which the modern and organic effortlessly blend and can be experienced simultaneously.
Clean, simple design is present to every last detail, right down to the toiletries and bath amenities which are individually packaged and presented through the brand’s lens. The beds also have meditative cards asking guests to consider the environmental impact of having sheets changed as “the world is vast but delicate.” This exquisitely designed hotel demonstrates that modern comfort and mindful environmentalism can be attained and go hand-in-hand.
The Experience:
As soon as guests set foot in the smooth concrete compound, they can forget all about the busy city life which they just left behind. Throughout the entire property, there’s nothing but peaceful silence, which one will feel naturally disposed to maintain. Guests are immersed in ideal tranquility from the beginning to end of their stay.
There are only 34 rooms in this boutique hotel with eight unique layouts. The Business Room in particular was superbly designed with the business traveler in mind. The room is divided into two floors with a floating staircase for a complete loft setup. The bottom level features a desk facing a Smart TV with an individual leather divan in between. Next to the desk is the sink where guests can set up a small kitchenette with a kettle or a vanity for getting ready. The bathroom has an open concept with the toilet and shower being located outdoors with glass doors that look out to the shower. Finally, upstairs is the bedroom which feels airy and calm, perfect for passing out onto plush white sheets after a long work day.
The hotel is on Lloyd Street, which is an elegant residential road just off Somerset Road. Thus, the location is incredibly central with easy access to MRT stations and commercial districts around Orchard and Clarke Quay. The best part is being able to quickly walk to Killiney Road which is lined with casual shop houses serving local fare of all varieties. It’s here that hotel guests can get a simple breakfast at Killiney Kopitam or upgrade to a bigger brunch option for an additional $7.
When guests wish to spend time outside of their rooms, walking around the property is lovely with plenty of places to sit and relax. The shallow dipping pool is the highlight, where one can soak among palm fronds after a long day of traveling. There are also daybeds by the pool and hanging basket chairs by the garden to lounge in. Overall, Lloyd’s Inn is an urban oasis outfitted for maximum tranquility and relaxation, all right in the middle of a bustling city.
Amenities:
Dipping Pool: The shallow pool isn’t for swimming but it’s for chilling and soaking in, to relax at any time of the day. The cool water is always refreshing amidst the humid tropical weather.
Pantry & Coffeemaker: Keeping with its eco-friendly theme, the hotel doesn’t provide individual coffeemakers in the rooms, but there’s an espresso machine in the common pantry/dining area where guests can bring mugs from their rooms to get coffee anytime. The quiet outdoor area also has a vending machine, an icemaker, and a microwave.
In-Room Massages: Guests can order in-room massages from a spa treatment menu at the front desk.
Breakfast: Hotel guests can receive a complimentary breakfast of Singaporean kaya toast, soft-boiled eggs, and coffee or tea at Killiney Kopitiam down the road. Killiney Kopitiam is a lively shop house diner full of locals getting breakfast every morning. For those looking to have a larger, or a more Western breakfast, they can order a souped up brunch menu at Freshly Baked Café down Killiney Road for an additional $7.
