A small but, by far, one of the best champagne houses.

Nestled on the outskirts of the city of Reims, France lies the small village of Ville-Dommange. While it isn’t home to any of the major champagne houses, what it does offer is picturesque views, generous

hospitality, and people passionate about champagne. If you’re looking for an intimate, family run champagne house, look no further than Champagne Florent Bergeronneau-Marion.

The Bergeronneau family of father Florent, mother Véronique, son Fabien, and daughter Virginie, have tended to this champagne vineyard since 2007. Florent grew up working in the vineyards with his father, and at 18, was offered a small plot to care for as his own. His passion for champagne only grew from there, and eventually, with the help of Véronique, created the Clos des Bergeronneau.

Surrounded by wire fencing, hedges and 19th century walls, the idyllic vineyard is home to 25% Pinot noir, and 75% Pinot Meunier grapes. Its placement in the middle of the hillside allows the roots of the vines to dig deep into the limestone and clay-based soil. The surrounding walls block the wine and give the space a higher temperature which allows the grapes to thrive. The vines themselves are more than 65 years old, they offer a powerful and balanced vintage that is hard to find anywhere else. The whole space offers incomparable views of both the vineyard and surrounding countryside, one could sit there for hours on end.

The family does every step of the Champagne process themselves, from the cultivation of the vine to the grape pressing, vinification, and finally champagnization. They continue to achieve excellence with hard work, patience, and infinite passion for the job. Their ability to control all aspects of the process allows them to produce specific cuvées that you can’t find anywhere else. Their award-winning Clos des Bergeronneau is made from grapes grown entirely within the Clos. It is vinified solely with the 65-year-old Pinot Meunier vines, and its aromas are specific to the soil it is grown in. A must try if you’re a lover of champagne.

If you want an inside look at what it’s like to live and breath champagne, look no further than The Bergeronneau family and their vineyard. You’ll find exceptional bubbles nestled in the dreamy countryside of Champagne region, and a passionate group of people who want to share their love of champagne with the world. Visit them here.
