Since most of the filming of The Wolf of Wall Street was done in New York City.
Nominated for five Academy Awards this year is The Wolf of Wall Street, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler, Rob Reiner, Jon Favreau and Jean Dujardin. Directed by the brilliant Martin Scorsese, the story is based on the memoir written by Jordan Belfort regarding his past as a New York stockbroker who ran a firm involved in corruptions and securities fraud on Wall Street.
Since most of the filming was done in New York City; if you’re a big movie buff and want to live out your favorite scenes from this blockbuster, here are some hotspots that should be on your radar:
1. New York Stock Exchange (11 Wall Street in Lower Manhattan)
When Belfort arrived to the city on his way to his first job with LF Rothschild, he strolled by the New York Stock Exchange.
2. Top of the Sixes (666 Fifth Avenue)
Top of the Sixes was where Matthew McConaughey’s character, Mark Hanna, took Belfort to an eye-opening/wakeup call lunch. 666 Fifth Avenue is a 41-story office building on Fifth Avenue which was the base of the Rothschild’s banking business while the penthouse level was occupied by Top of the Sixes restaurant that no longer exists today. Currently, Uniqlo occupies a huge retail space in the building along with offices of law firms and hedge funds.
3. Equitable Building (120 Broadway)
Where Belfort received his first job as a licensed broker. The Equitable Building is 38 stories, built in 1913 and an engineering achievement during its time. It became a National Historic Landmark in 1978 and a New York City Landmark in 1996.
4. Shalimar Diner (6368 Austin Street in Queens)
In the film, Shalimar Diner was renamed to “Kacandes Diner” as Martin Scorsese’s inside joke since the film’s Production Manager was Georgia Kacandes. This was where Jonah Hill’s character, Donnie Azoff, made his entrance in the film as the guy who was enthralled to work with Belfort.
5. Trump Tower (725 Fifth Avenue)
The famous scene of Belfort snorting coke from Naomi’s breasts in a limo then caught by his wife was shot in front of the iconic Trump Tower.
6. Milan Condominium (300 East 55th Street)
In the scene where the butler got in real trouble was also where they filmed the TV series: Gossip Girl. In Wolf of Wall Street though, the penthouse apartment (where Naomi moved in with Belfort after his divorce) is called Milan Condominium in real life. The condo was recently up for sale for $6.5 million. That’s some burning hot real estate!
7. Four Season Restaurant (99 East 52nd Street)

8. Rao’s Restaurant (455 East 114th Street)
When Belfort realized that FBI was investigating in his business, he met Bo Dietl, a private investigator, in New York’s Rao’s Restaurant in East Harlem. The restaurant was established in 1896 by Charles Rao, who moved with his parents from Italy to the U.S. He bought a small shop in Italian Harlem, an area with heavy Italian-American influences, and ran the restaurant until his death in 1909. Today, it’s still one of the most iconic and legendary restaurants in NYC and carries a reputation as being “tough” and “difficult”. Side note: it’s where Jay-Z shot his music video for “D.O.A.” (Death of Autotune)
