(CLOSED) Why Blackbird Is Chicago’s Best Kept Secret

Restaurant week is every week when you walk into Blackbird.

Restaurant week is every week when you walk into Blackbird. Just off of W. Randolph street in Chicago’s West Loop appears to lie a crisp white box, but on the inside its bursting with flavor.

Blackbird sought out to expose the Midwest to casual fine dining and they have done just that over the past 20 years. Their combination of warm hospitality in a sleek space allows for a perfect dinning experience, but what many don’t know is that you can eat at Blackbird for a steal too.

When I first ate at Blackbird for lunch during restaurant week a few years back they had a three course pre fix lunch for only $25 I thought both the food and the price were out of this world. However, this lunch prefix option is available year round!

The Executive Chef and James Beard Award Winner Paul Kahan never ceases to disappoint with a seasonally changing menu. But a year round favorite of mine are his soups. Most people don’t tend to go to a James Beard Award winner’s restaurant to order soup as their appetizer, but trust me on this one no matter how odd the combination sounds they will always amaze you.

Whether you’re celebrating a birthday or just spending a nice lunch out of the office Blackbird wholeheartedly embodies casual fine dining in the Midwest. There’s something quite elegant about getting a prefix for lunch as you linger over their massive chunks of bread, Arnold Palmers, or a wine pairing if you so choose. The airy restaurant gives you a real Chicago West Loop feel as you can watch both artist and businessmen stroll past the giant floor to ceiling windows.

Next time before you decide to order takeout for lunch or you become tired of the tuna sandwiches that you pack for work everyday, take a stroll around the corner to Blackbird. You won’t regret it.
